    AO 1911 question

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could possibly get some help on my 1911 before sending it back to the factory. I haven't done any mods or cleaned it prior to shooting it. I fired a total of 3 rounds and one went off. The other two rounds had light strikes on the casing. I know it isn't the round itself cause I put them back into my SA XD and fired fine. Im thinking it could be an issue with the firing pin block with the series 80. But would like someones opinion on it? Thanks

Brand new 1911's tend to need a good long break in and lots of lube.

Im curious if its not another issue other than a break in period. I also have a SA MC operator that I fired 200 rds with no issues, other than a mag not locking on last rd fired and I didn't clean that pistol either.

Try giving it a good cleaning and then lube it. Some companies will ship their guns with a bunch of crud that will keep it from rusty but does nothing to help lube it and will actually make it hard to shoot until you clean it out.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I would agree about a good cleaning. I picked up a RIA 1911 Tactical almost 2 weeks ago. I was practically dripping in shipping "oil". I detailed stripped, cleaned and lubed it.

Only had time for a short range trip but threw 30 rounds of Freedom Munitions reloads with only 1 mag issue. The follower slipped up over the slide lock and jammed. Only happened once.

I have 2 Wilson Combat mags for it now and hope they work fine.

The pistol not firing 2 out of 3 rounds is not a "break-in" issue.

I'd remove the slide and pull the firing pin stop and inspect the firing pin for any burrs as well as the firing pin channel for any crud.

With the slide off you can also inspect the parts of the firing pin safety for full freedom of movement.

Or just send it in for warranty repair, all up to your level of mechanical ability and/or curiosity.

I would probably give it a thorough cleaning first and then take it back to the range for another session. I used to not clean my guns and took them to the range NIB. Most functioned well, but 2/2 Colts did not. I was told the oil used as a preservative should be removed prior to shooting. Since it didn't happen to my other 1911's, I did not know until I experienced the issue. AO might be using a similar oil as preservative?

I think it is worth a try before doing any other changes or sending it back for warranty.

              Good luck!
