    Rejected DROS :(

Well.. that was a buzzkill of a phone call.

A week ago I went to Riflegear and DROS'd a Sig 1911 .22 .. they just called and said the DOJ refused it due to the 1 in 30 day rule.

The problem is that I haven't bought ANY new handguns. A monthish ago I bought a PPT (done at OC Armory) from a Calgunner.. but that was used.

I doubt it was that since more recently I bought a Glock 17 Gen4 off a buddy in Tennesse.. He shipped it to OC Armory who did the single shot (SSE) deal on it. Now it was a private sale, but did doing an SSE on make it DROS like a new gun?

Sorta hard to go to Riflegear and redo the paperwork when I don't know what triggered the refusal.. Riflegear gave me the number to call, but said they never have any luck calling the DOJ.

    Thoughts?

Do you have a copy of the DROS for that Gen4 Glock? What was the stated nature of the transfer?

Ok, well never mind.. was just told that a private party transfer is ONLY in person and in the state.. all used guns from out of state are treated as NEW in California..

So our stupid, pointless, and convoluted gun laws just cost me $35. yeah! lol

Out of state used handguns are not "treated as NEW in California", they are just not a ppt. The prior ownership or lack thereof is moot.

$25 DROS and a $10 dealer fee I would assume. But on a direct buy from the FFL I guess he meant $25.

Nope. You cost yourself the DROS fee by not knowing the law

Check your receipt, since it's a new gun, bought from the dealer, it might only be $25.

You can bring it with you physically and then just register it here in your name within 60 days of moving here. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Brandon04GT you are correct you will just have to pay the 19 dollar fee to register the weapon not sure if thats 19 per weapon or not. I did the same thing with a Sig Sauer P225 I brought into the state back in 2007..

But if it is a off roster gun does it require me bringing it back to Cali single shot exemption not too sure

Same thing happened to me, bought a Beretta compact from a guy in Florida and since FFL took possession and was not a FTF, it didn't count as PPT and did for the one in thirty. DROS was rejected and I had to re DROS.

Off roster can be brought in to ca without single shot. The only thing is mags must be limited to 10 rounds. And yes, to the op anything not ppt transferred is considered new. Also requires sales tax.

No it does not. Before moving here you might also want to buy all the off roster guns you THINK you might want down the road. Otherwise you will be SOL...especially starting next year if the bill banning SSEs becomes law. You can always sell your off roster guns later down the road in case you are in a crunch for cash. Oh wait, there is another bill in the pipes right now trying to ban off-roster transfers for non-roster exempt people.

Maybe you should just NOT move here
