Have you been under a rock?

It has easily been over a decade since Mec-Gar had been producing SIG OEM magazines. But even this is old news. SIG OEM magazines are now produced domestically (Checkmate) and the Italian ones are now going up in price

There are 2 different types of "reduced capacity" SIG mags.

The ones with a metal dimple are ones that started out as a standard capacity magazine, but the manufacturer added indentation dimples on the mag to prevent more than 10 rounds, and drilled out the witness holes accordingly. When loading 10 rounds, the mag will stop at the indentation when 10 rounds have been loaded.

The ones with a plastic base are only designed for 10 rounds and it's really evident. You can see where the metal magazine body ends and another plastic piece is used to bring the total magazine length to the correct length to fit in the mag well.

Those "made in italy" mags are the BEST you can get, period. They are made by mec-gar. They have been supplying mags to Sig and a ton of others for YEARS.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong. Maybe you put the spring in the mag in backwards? I think what is happening is that the mag body is flexing for some reason. When you download the mag by a round, the mag body isn't moving. All signs that the mag spring is in backwards.

Are those mags 10 rounders or the 12?

*** Update ... Problem fixed **** I took the grip off and was still having the same problem. I started to do a little cleaning since it was already stripped. After assembling the gun, again same problem. I started to mess with the grip and loosen up the screws a little and now it works perfect again.

I don't know why it wasn't working with the grips off, but it worked with the grips on as long is not tightened all the way.

Mec-gar magazines are awesome. Way better than the magazines that came with my sig.

I haven't bought any magazines in over ten years. Can you guess why? Probably not, so I'll help you out - I don't want, don't need any low-caps.

LOL, doubt that. I have Mec-gars and I have factory SIG mags that I bought in the 80's and 90's. I'll take the SIGs any day over the Mec-gars.

I've had this happen to me before and would be my first guess as well.

That was the problem. The strange part is when I took the grips off, i was having the same problem. I put the grips on and still same problem. Started loosen the screws and problem fixed.

I really need to learn how to detail strip this gun.

I don't think I have either...and all my SIG magazines are their full designed capacity

I'm also a fan of the European SIG magazines, even thought I know they have weaknesses that the SIG magazines manufactured by Mec-Gars don't share.

So you prefer the dovetail backed ones or the zipper backed ones?

The only Sig mags that I use are the 7 rounders for my 220's and all the mags for my 225's. The Mec gar mags are better engineered period. Their spring design is the best in the business.

I fixed the problem but my night sights are almost dead and need to be changed out. You think its better to send it to them or have a local shop change them?

If you are not on a rush, SIG has a service where they not only change out your night sights, but they will inspect and replace springs and stuff on your gun for like $149 (?).

You get OEM Trijicon with SIG's service but you get variety with your local gunsmith.
