    Sig p226 help

I'm having a problem putting in a full mag in my p226. I try to load it and the mag will not go in. After putting some force it will fit but then the mag release gets stuck, I have to apply some force from the bottom of the mag to loosen up the mag release and drop the mag.

When I take 1 round out, it becomes a little easier to put in the mag and release it. When I take out another round (8 rounds in the mag) it works perfect. Hoping someone can tell me what the problem might be.

A little info about the gun, it might help. sig p226 equinox (40cal) I've had it for 7 years (first owner) and round count is 800-1000. Last time I used it was a little over a year ago.

Is this a new mag? Or have you been having this problem for the last 7 years? Just one mag or all of them?

My guess most likely is just a poorly made mag...

2 factory mags that came with the gun 7 years ago. Never had this problem before.

Have you ever replaced any parts on them? Try another mag see what happens.
        Have a good day!

Aye, three factory mags I bought a few months ago still have this problem, even after I've been letting them sit with 10 rounds packed into the mags to loosen up the springs.

It's a pain to have to really slam the mag in hard to get it to stay, and then if you notice the chambered round, the casing has been roughed up by part of the slide because of how tight the fit is.

Everything on the gun is factory. I tried both mags and same problem with both. I'll call around to my LGS and see if anyone has a mag in stock and give a new one a try.

Did you take the grips off recently? Sounds like one of the grip screws is on too tight and the screw is in the magwell.

Your right its always been tight fit, but never like this. I always keep both mags full and after 7 years I'm sure its broken in by now.

This is my first gun I purchased once I turned 21, I won't rest until its fixed lol

10 round mags often have this problem. If there was slack, you could cram in another round

Try taking apart the mags and clean and lube everything lightly.

Might as well clean and lube the gun too. See if that helps?

SIG magazines are made in Italy now? Yuch.

Did you try it with the grips off? Is it any different?

Yes it does the same thing with the grip off. I just noticed the made in Italy when I took the picture.
