No, you do not pay sales tax on a PPT. It is a private party transfer and a private party sale, no sales tax should be collected. I have done PPT's at a couple of Turner's, Metroshot, Ade's, Bright Spot and J&J Armory that I can think of and have yet to pay any sales tax and when the question has come up it has always been answered with "no sales tax on PPT's or consignment guns because consignment guns are PPT's too."

for ppts i haven't had to pay sales tax. for consignments i have, depending on the store/ffl because a consignment is considered a used gun and not a ppt since the seller isn't actually there.Mal: Dear Buddha, please bring me a pony and a little plastic rocket...Comment

I've always treated a consignment sale as a PPT. The Seller provides all the documentation and signatures needed when he puts up the gun for sale so he doesnt need to be there when the transaction actually takes place.
As such, consignment sales do not fall under the 1 per 30 days rule.Comment

My experience with consignment guns is that they are private party transfers, when the customer puts it on consignment, they have have already filled out the release paperwork)
last September I bought 3 consignment guns the same day at a Turners in Kearny Mesa, and 2 in one day at a local gun store. In all cases I paid tax on them and still had of course to wait the 10 days. I do believe that if the store buys the gun and resells it as a use gun that it would fall under the 1 gun a mon th rule(I could be wrong here)
That's been my personal experienceComment

Consignment sales in general do not fall under 1 per 30 day rule . Exceptions (Los Angeles) noted above.
Consignment sales are run as PPT on the DROS form. They are subject to sales tax since the firearms are in dealer inventory.
Face to face PPT are not subject to sales tax.RP1911

I just purchased 3 consignment hand guns in the same day and picked them all up at the same time. The 30 day rule applies to weapons purchased directly from a dealer. You can buy as many consignment hand guns at the same time as you can afford. This was in LA county.Comment

Dealers mark DROS forms under the PPT for consignment sales. Consignment sales require the collection of sales tax, per the CA BD of Equalization.Comment
