That's a great deal. Bought my 686 in 1984 for around $250. Sold it in 2008, for $475 after putting in a few thousand rounds. The gun will still accurate as heck and in great condition.

So I happened upon this one by chance yesterday while driving through an unfamiliar area. I passed a pawn shop with a sign saying they now accept guns, so I had to take a look. They had some air weight J frames, a KRISS Vector plus a few other goodies, but when I saw this 686 for only $525 I had to take a closer look. Once I saw it was a no dash I went to work on them. They were closed by the time I got done checking it out so we agreed on a price but I had to come back today to jail it. I spent the rest of the night thinking about it which is when I started wavering back to the Franklin lower. Thanks to a little help from you guys I will again own a 685 no dash in 10 days- oh and they got the price wrong this morning and I got it $10 cheaper than agreed! I appreciate the help!I voted against Obama before it was cool.

Ummmmm, really? You have to ask this?Today I came across a deal on a S&W 686 no dash in excellent condition for $450. I was planning to DROS it tomorrow, but I'm having second thoughts. I sold my old 686 4" no dash and regretted it, but I've been eyeing a Franklin Armory complete lower for the same money and trying to decide which I want. I need some feedback from the group to help me decide.
Thanks!Comment

The no dashes had to go back to the factory for a modification to the firing pin/nose bushing. Seems that some had an issue with the opening being too large and when shooting a magnum out of them, the primer would deform enough to 'flow' into the large hole causing the cylinder to lock up so that you could not reload. A very dangerous situation for law enforcement.
Again this was only on some of the revolvers, not all and if you don't plan on shooting magnums, you may never need to modify.
There should be a capital 'M' stamped near the serial number, usually at the crane or the frame at the butt bottom (gotta take the stocks off to see that part) if the mod has already been performed.
I know of many that never made it back for the fix and they work fine, I have one as a matter of fact and it is without issue.
But for $450, I would say that you scored BIG time.Comment
