i have a colt python that im helping a friend sell, but im not too sure what the value of the gun is (jokes are welcome, but seriously!! lol). can someone help me out? thanks

You should check with Colt and see if it came from them with the engraving, that info could help price it more accurately.

The grips are aftermarket nd the serial number is not one I am familiar with. 69-78 had an E prefix. Not sure if factory engraved or not. That changes everything. Try the Colt forum someone there might have more info. My best guess is between 1800 and 2300. The condition is key.

If it can't be documented as factory engraved,it is nothing more then
a fancy shooter but we all know what shooter Pythons are worth,especially these days.
Believe the serial # date is about 1985. Pete

Condition is a big factor.

The key to determining value is WHO engraved it.

If it was engraved by the factory you will need to get a letter from them to be able to get the most of it.

If not the next thing would be to try and find out who did the engraving. The value will be based on that person's name.

You have a lot of work to do but it will be worth it in the long run.

If it's factory engraving and you can get the letter directly from colt (that will cost you ~$75 or so plus the wait time) proving/documenting it, you'll get a lot more than $2,300 IMO.

1985 or later.

You have to call Colt. They'll give you the year of production, but details on the gun (especially who did the engraving) require a letter from colt.

I believe the cost for the colt letter is now 100.00 last I checked the wait time was 6 months. Contact the colt archives dept to place an order.

Check a file, have someone print out the particular's on official looking paper, slap a stamp on the envelope for $100! 6 month wait :-0. Is it just me or is Colt milking this?
