Just picked up my new Smith&Wesson Model 22 .45 ACP this week!! It is beautiful blue finish with a 5.5 barrel. Makes all my other pistols seem inferior..... Any one else had this happen?

Is this the version with the lanyard clip on the bottom of the grip?
If it is, I guess it finally got on the DOJ list. I was watching for that to be added."Over-sentimentality, over-softness, in fact washiness and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people. I showed it to a buddy of mine recently and he couldn't put down. He's really into old cars and gangster movies, he loves it. Would like to get him one for his birthday soon. We've been friend since I was 7 yrs old. funny thing is I made a comment to him the other day.... "Nothing changed Ed... you've always had the nicer toys but I've always had the nicer guns." Just thought that was kind of funny.Comment

Very nice. I just ordered a S&W 329, but I think now since the Model 22 has been added to the DOJ list, I will get one in regular blue."Over-sentimentality, over-softness, in fact washiness and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people. Historically correct in that the 1917 was never offered in CCH. Still, it is nice and makes me wonder why S&W never offered them in that finish in the first place. Of course, not very many S&Ws were offered in CCH and IIRC, no Hand Ejectors were ever offered in that finish until about 10 years ago.Frank Da TankComment

I got your meaning... S&Ws were always about the blued finish. Their hammers and triggers were often CCH, though.
I'll bet it has something to do with their competition (Colt) always having used CCH frames.
Even the blue one is lovely...

Will someone say something BAD about these things?sigpicComment

The lock is not historically correct either
I have a 1917 army that someone put modern sights on and modern grips and is missing the lanyard but I only paid about $250 for it. I need to shoot it more often.

Those 22's are nice guns, and I covet one. I am especially impressed with the nickel finish on 'em.
Budsgunshop quietly ran the matching Model 21 (in .44 Special) several months ago on sale -- they are being discontinued I think -- for $523 shipped. I almost bought one several times but other guns intervened...
I will buy one of the Model 22 in 4" later this year, prolly....to match my as-yet--unpurchased nickel New Classics 27 and 29 in matching 4 and 6.5" barrel lengths

The Smith 1917 new production guns are very nice - I think any time Smith makes a fixed sight N frame it's a good thing, I happen to be waiting for the "new" Model 58 and already bought a 21. But regarding the 1917, there are still plenty of originals around and in very good shape. I don't think they cost much more than the new ones. I have one in about 90% shape with everything original, think I paid about $450.00 a few years ago. Since they're C & Rs if one is found on line it can be sent into CA via FFL Dealer. Might be worthwhile to track down an original also.
I have been on the fence regarding getting a new version, they do look great.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
