    CZ compacts...

Do any of you guys have experiences with the CZ compact models (I think the RAMI?) ?

What other CZ models do you recommend?

I'm looking for another pistol and heard good things about CZ- but the reviews on certain models vary....there was even a recent post here about a feeding issue. I don't think I want to buy a new pistol and have to replace vital components to have it function reliably...

The pistol will be used for HD as well as plinking.....9mm or 40S&W...

As always- thanks in advance for your help and input.

I have a CZ P-01. I bought it used and have put maybe 1000 rounds through it. The only failures I had with it were ammo related. Both were because the mouth of the case was still bell-ed and not properly crimped.

The only reason more hasn't gone through it is because I now also have a CZ SP-01. I've put around 2000 rounds through that.

I'd go with a SP-01. I've owned 2 of them and i use one currently as my race gun.

He said Compact, man - the SP-01 is the biggest 9mm CZ out there. Go with the P-01 for a compact. I can only paste in from an article that says it best; my P-01 does duty as the HD gun at the ready.

"...according to the information supplied by CZ, the gun had to withstand 4,000 dry-firings, 3,000 de-cockings, operator-level disassembly and re-assembly 1,350 times, complete disassembly (all the way down to pins and springs) 150 times, 100-percent parts interchangeability, a 1.5 meter drop test (54 times) on concrete, three meter drop test, firing after being frozen at -36 F for 24 hours, firing after being submerged in mud, sand and combinations--and after having been stripped of all oil. The service life must exceed 15,000 rounds of +P 9mm ammo and indeed, testing revealed the P-01 has exceeded 30,000 rounds with ball 9mm."

P-01 is one of the best kept secrets in guns.

I have a P-01 (9mm) and a P-06 (.40 S&W) and both are great guns with outstanding reliability. If you're not going to carry it though I'd consider an SP-01. It's more comfortable to shoot and I shoot it better. Noticeably bigger though if that's an issue.

I'm amazed most of the CZ are not even more popular. The SP-01 is probably my favorite 9mm handgun right now and they're very reasonably priced.

They're very popular in Europe. The CZ 75 is the most widely issued police/ military service pistol in the world.

I have a CZ P-01 and it's an amazing weapon. Just a tad on the heavy side for it's size (compared to say, a Glock 19) but it's a sturdy piece of weaponry. It just FEELS well put together.

cz guns are best value for the money. That is said I've read a LOT of reports of problems with RAMI in .40. All kinds of crap. For more information go to http://czforum.com

                          and

forums are not very active, however it does have quite a bit information in cz guns.

                          Now to my personal experience.
I owe RAMI in 9mm. It eats everything except cheap Blazers. I've sent to to Matt Mink for trigger job and now it is truly amazing peace of hardware - very precise, very reliable. It is a big heavy and a bit wide for what it is though - I find it difficult to see that this gun can be carried concealed, if that is the issue. Especially when you put Hogue wrap-around. Not like you need them as all cz gun has excellent ergonomics. With one BUT. Grip is short, so there is no place for the pinky. I put slightly modified Pearce magazine extensions ( for XD ) on all my magazines and now it feels much more stable.
Bottom line: to buy or not to buy - yes, at least in 9mm. Carry gun - with limitation(s). HD gun - can be, but why? I would think that HD gun are not limited in size by definition - that is what makes 12 ga best HD gun.

So I would recommend getting full size cz ( like cz75 ) for HD gun. Unless of cause money is the issue and you have to have one gun to fit many roles.

                          one other note:

I don't think I want to buy a new pistol and have to replace vital components to have it function reliably...
the only component you have to replace in cz guns is recoil and possibly magazine springs. It just is what it is - springs are weak and if you planning to shoot +p loads....... You better spend $20 on Wolf springs. BTW - replacing then is VERY easy - even if you are mechanically challenged.

This BTW doesn't apply to RAMI - it have double captured recoil spring and I don't think that there is after market replacement. Besides it seems that it doesn't like underpowered loads, and handles full power loads just fine.

That's the PCR like mine! Great little gun. My wife loves it too. I believe it's the same as the P01 but without the rail so it's a tad lighter. I "heard" a few years ago that CZ was going to drop the PCR and replace it with the P01 but they are still offering it on their website. Not sure if the PCR is even on the list anymore.
