    CCW gun choice help!

    Hey Calgunners,

I need your help! My accountant (read wife) has given the green light to buy my own Father's Day gift! A new CCW pistol!!

Now, here comes my choices. I have the opportunity to get a:
-S&W Bodyguard .380 blow back, or
    -Kahr CP45, or
    -RIA .45 Compact

I plan to carry it in conjunction with a GI 1911, but can't decide if I want a new platform or stay with .45cal since I already have mags, bullets, bore snack etc.

    What would you choose? Why?

    Thanks much in advance!!

    CCW gun choice help!

Why not the 642/442? Perfect ccw carry IMO. Although I did like the feeling the the bodyguard.

The S&W is a great choice for carry for those quick trips to the store etc. always a good idea to have a super compact when/if you may not want to carry your full size.

My RIA was on my CCW and will be again when I get my new CCW from the new county I live in.

I personally do not like khars, I think the triggers are so horrid that any other upsides are null and void.

little 380 would be nice, you can run a pocket holster or put it on your hip and not even notice it.

practicality says get another .45 that way one type of bullet can feed two different beasts as you mentioned you already have a full size

              +1 for the 642
Of the 3 you listed I would go for the KAHR 45. Common caliber to your current carry pistol but thinner and lighter. The RIA is a good quality pistol but is only a few ounces lighter than your GI 45.

Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!

What about an American Tactical .45 Titan? Yet, I've heard the have recoil/main spring issues.

I have to agree with some others. Take them out for a test and see what works best for you. Out of your choice I pick the Kahr I know it the best. never handled a RI and I think 380 is last choice do to caliber only.

                    I have a 642 and a G30 I always carry. Some pants and shirts don't allow the G30, so it's to the 642.

Hey congrats on your green light!! I've never fired or even handled any of the firearms you're currently considering so I cant really lean towards one or the other.

Taking them for a test run is and making the decision based on that seems like the logical thing to do though.

                      I see you're already carrying a 1911.

I've carried a pre-series Kimber Ultra Carry for about 5 years now and owned it for close to 7 years. Bought it used for $500.00 and now they run close to double that. I wouldn't trade it for the world.. I must have over 10,000 rounds through it and I've never had a problem a new recoil spring can't fix. I say stick with the 1911 format but that's mainly because that's what I am most familiar with.

Good luck with your decision and make sure to take your time and fire it before you buy it!!

Stupi question, OP, but if you get the RIA can't you find mags to fit BOTH your GI 1911 and the RIA? 2 guns 1 caliber same mags= sounds like a win to me.

Yes, my Wilson Combat mags will fit both. Which is why after looking at the poll, a good nights sleep and my gut feeling, I'm pulling for the 1911.

But, I am still debating a "pocket pistol" too.
