I was told that i would have to wait the 30 days only for brand new handguns only at the FFL where i got my 1911

The 30 day wait is for any handgun transferred out of the CA FFL dealer's inventory, this includes new and used handguns.

I'm not sure if this is entirely correct. The 10 day waiting period specifically mentions:

"The waiting period for the purchase or transfer of a firearm is ten (10) 24-hour periods from the date and time of the submission of the DROS information to the DOJ."

PC section 12072(a)(9) simply states:

"No person shall make an application to purchase more than one pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person within any 30-day period."

I have had guns in waiting and the FFL simply gives me a date to do the next DROS, 30 days out. For the 10 day waiting period he gives me an earliest pick up time on the 10th day.

Not to say this is absolutely correct but I have never been given a time on the 30th day when I can start my next dros, just the date. I have been given an explicit time before which I cannot pick up my firearm after the 10 day wait. I can't be the only one that has had more than one firearm laying in wait. What have others been told by their FFL ?

I dealt with this with my last gun, a Security Six I bought that was on consignment.
The thirty days start when the shop get the gun, with mine the revolver had only been in stock for one or two days. After that was up, I had to go back to the shop and start my ten day dro's.

Different issue. That has to do with a time period to ensure used guns are not stolen. Completely separate from the 1 in 30 day wait for dealer stock guns. Consignment guns are not subject to the 1 in 30 day rule (except in LA).

AregularGuy, my FFL does the DROS on day 31.

There is a time stamp on the DROS paperwork, so if you start the DROS 719 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds after your last one, the State MAY reject it (I've tried to avoid testing that). This particular FFL will let me pick up 240 hours after the DROS goes in and start a new one 720 hours after the previous DROS started, but I have dealt with FFLs who like to round up to the nearest calendar day to be safe.
