Real quality gun does not need any second guessing.

+p is just a marketing gimmic to sell ammo at higher prices. When was the last time your regular 9mm or .45 ammo did not have enough power and you got the problem solved by changing to +p ammo?

... thats like saying, why do you need the more expensive .45 when you can by 9mm

It used to be no more expensive. The difference, if you believe manufacturers numbers, is that it would throw a 147 grain 9mm at the same speed as a 124.

Seems like a good idea to me, other things being equal.

It's fine, I shot hundreds of rounds of +P thru my M&P's.

So the +p, means it packs more punch.

For 9mm it means an extra ~10% of pressure for a slightly higher velocity.

I have an M&P 40c with a factory 9mm barrel. I read the manual and it doesn't say you can't shoot +P but they imply that it's not good for the gun. Any one shoot +P in their M&P?
Critical Duty 135gr +P is a great load. If you're that worried about it and really prefer Critical Defense, I've got a few boxes of Critical Defense I would be happy to trade you in a 1-for-1 deal.

Honestly though, your M&P should have zero problems shooting the Critical Duty +P load.

Thanks for all the input. I'll shoot a mag or two and keep the rest for the mags in the night stand.

In a sturdy pistol of modern manufacture, I doubt that you (or your target, for that matter) will even notice the difference. I've fired +P, NATO, and standard 9mm Luger loads in the same sitting out of a small, lightweight Glock 26 and couldn't really feel a difference in recoil, slide velocity, and ejection pattern/velocity.

The difference is approximately 10% more pressure, from a maximum of ~35,000 PSI to 38,500. Consider that your pistol has already fired at least one proof cartridge that produces 45,000-50,000 PSI without taking any damage, and all of the sudden 4000 PSI more doesn't seem like such a big deal.

It still amaze me that there are people that would turn their nose on an affordable and functional gun that can take a lot of abuse. Guess I HAVE NO RESPECT for gun snoobs...just saying.

Like you said, shoot a couple of Mags and save the rest for HP. I use the +P in all my CCW handguns. Too expensive to play range day, but you need to shoot some to get a feel. like the difference between 38 special and 357 Mag.
