Congrats on a nice handgun. Yeah the Les Baers are tight. My PII Supertac loosened up after about 1000 rounds. So don't worry you'll be able to rack the slide without getting a hernia after that. Oh and just to let you know, the Les Baer mags that came with the pistols are crap. Get some Wilsons or CMC power mags and you shouldn't have anymore problems. The thing with Baers too....lubrication, lubrication, lubrication Enjoy, man!

yes... first thing i did was buy some wilson mags....and man racking the slide makes me feel like a little girl!

FTF in the first mag isn't an issue. Baers are fitted tight, and need at least 500 rounds to break in nicely. Just keep shooting it

Indoor ranges give me problems too with the lighting.

les's magazines tend to have weaker springs when compared to the other big names out there.

in addition to cmc and wilson i'd recommend tripp mags as they seem to have the most powerful spring on the market. wears out your thumbs loading them but i've yet to have a problem in my baer with them.

Yup, my Baers have all had some break-in issues which cleared up after 300-400 rounds. It's smooth sailing afterwards. It'll take about 1200 rounds for it to really break in without the really tight lockup.

Yup, Baer mags are less than stellar. My experiences with them are positive however. They don't compare to build quality as CMC's Powermags or 47Ds, but they still work. Dropped in sand, concrete and getting dirty it'll still run. Even with the follower getting sluggish the gun will still run. Cleaning recommended though.

500 is needed for an actual break in not over 1000, the mags aren't the best but I've had no problems in over 5k rounds and Baer's are a bargain in the Semi-Custom world so the price is reflective IMO

They're thinking of getting you the most performance for your $$$. All Baers are at least guaranteed 3" shooters at 50 yards. That's FIFTY YARDS. Hence the tightness and required break-in. All the money does go into hand fitting of top notch parts. I'd rather my money go to that than a fancy box (which just sit in the garage) or a handful of mags (Wilsons FTW) or a coupon for a bunch of stuff I'm not buying anyways.

FYI, my 1.5" SuperTac is a tack-driver. Traded a 226ST + eight bills for that puppy, and it's my most accurate pistol. Surprisingly, it's not as tight as other Baers I've handled, but it's still mind-blowingly accurate. I'm glad I own a Baer.

Sorry I should have been more clear. 300-400 to work out the kinks. 500 round breakin. 1200 for it to be really, really smooth (and rid of that initial click for really tight lock-up)

The Baer mags function fine. There are just other mags that are better.
