    Kimber 1911 - Complete Breakdown

    Hi Calguns.

I got my first 1911 - Kimber Desert Warrior and I wanted to know if anyone had a PDF or guide to completely disassemble the pistol down into base parts.

My goal is to get the frame and slide down to the basic naked frame/slide and send them out for some work but I'd like to know how to do the dis-assembly and re-assembly myself.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Search you tube, lots of vids. What work are you getting done.
I have one, only thing I did was add a Ed Brown MSH with magwell. It's a great shooter, so far only 1130 rounds fired but its been outstanding so far. I am going to change the hammer spring to a 20 lb. the EB MSH added a little tension to the hammer spring, want to take it down a bit.

Thanks great video. I must have missed it in my YouTube search.

1 - I know I'm going to get flack for this, but I'm going to Cerakote/Duracoat it a lighter Desert Sand and make it more matte. Right now the default Kimber coating is more semi-gloss.

2 - Add a magwell and also Cera/Dura coat it to match the frame color.

Last, I might also have the top of the slide scalloped by 10-8.

            +1

If you're going to duracoat something I'd just start with a tle instead of messing with the desert warrior

1911's are in fact the barbie dolls of pistols.

Here are some pics. I didn't get the slide cut via Sailient but will next time. Complete dis-assembly and I Duracoated over the Kim Pro II finish.

I will say the Kim Pro II finish isn't nearly as durable as Duracoat. When I roughed up the surface using Scotch Brite, it came off easily. On my other Duracoat projects, Duracoat is much tougher and harder to remove.

Anyway, thanks for the link. Once this finish is completely beat, I'll do it again with the cuts and new sights.

                    - Complete dis-assembly
                    - Duracoat in Tactical Coyote Brown (best to apply using an airbrush - I heated the parts up to about 100 degrees before painting then and then baked at 170 for 1 hr)
                    - 10-8 Slide Release (IMHO a must have upgrade over the factory one - no need to worry about idiot marks here)
                    - Ed Brown Magwall - also Duracoated. I'm just waiting on the internal parts for it gets installed
                    - VZ Operator 2 - low profile in Hyena Brown (grip is awesome, Kimber factory is horrible)
                    - VZ Radiation screws
                    - Chip M - 10rnd Mag Plus

Thanks. Now, I'm looking for a cheap RIA to do much more on the next one. Can't wait to get the Kimber uber dirty. I have a lot of Freedom Munitions 45 and its dirty.

I will say - spray outside - Duracoat will make you sick if you don't the fumes are strong. I wore a mask and I could feel it still.

Nothing wrong with tat. The Kimpro finish is too slick for my taste. It's like a Teflon pan and it gives no traction when trying to rack the slide with any moisture on your hands.
