I actually did my own trigger job on my first M&P's stock parts, which was surprisingly very easy if you have hand files and polishing stones. From my own experience, all you really need to do if you want to improve the M&P's trigger is:
1.) Polish the trigger bar where it contacts the striker plunger safety (make sure not to remove material). This takes out the gritty feel from the takeup.
2.) Reduce the hump on the sear's striker engagement surface. This reduces trigger pull weight so only shave off a tiny bit of material at a time.
Just for kicks, I also reprofiled the part of the sear that contacts the trigger bar. This reduced the overtravel but I found it unnecessary unless you're very picky about overtravel. My second M&P that I bought this year actually came with S&W's new sear that already has this angle cut.
