My question remains, is there a statute of limitations to the crime of not doing a PPT when buying a handgun from a non-dealer after 1991?

I believe that I am right in saying that they would rather it be registered now, than have it live in limbo forever because people are too scared to regularize it. A registered gun is no longer "out of sight." THat's what I was told, but I don't have a written guarantee from DoJ on this.

How old is the gun? Could it have been transferred before a PPT was required? Could it have been brought into the state (by the owner) and simply not registered? Not suggesting that you lie, just pointing out why it might not be that easy for them to get too involved.

Whatever the other twists & turns are, is the seller required to have an HSC certificate?

Mention was made of the gun being checked and is "clean". Can we presume that means a paper trail does not document its travels and the current owner and he should be able to visit an FFL and have it DROS'd to its new owner?

I had it checked through an agency a friend works for i.e. law enforcement. and well i think his department would look down upon him doing personal stuff (such as checking a serial number for someone) he said to me " yeah, nothings wrong with it id just go take the proper steps to get it in your name. it all looked great in the computer.

Three years ago my roommate took off to live overseas. He sent a message for me to sell his guns and send him money. I asked him to sign over a power of attorney letter so that I could act in his interest.

I then sold his pistols a rifle and a shotgun. "Cali style" walking into gunshops etc... no one ever asked for anything more than my id.
