    taurus 1911 9mm vs RIA 1911 9mm

Does anyone have any experience with these two handguns? I am torn between the two and have looked online with mixed results. Both are going to be the "tactical model" (ambi safety, beaver tail grip). I search on gunbroker and find both close to same price used. I have only been able to hold the taurus as I can't find any RIA around. I would really appreciate firsthand information. Also the roster is not a problem for me as I live out of state now. Thanks.

Go with the Taurus. I own one, and its as accurate and reliable as anything else on the market.

Lifetime warranty which follows the gun no matter what, and availability of magazines and accessories is somewhat easier.Do not pay the Taurus haters any mind.

The 1911 may have been in wars for 100 years, but Masetro Bartolomeo Beretta was arming the world 400 years before John Browning was ever a wet dream.

Taurus has much better fit and finish and shoots as accurate as any production 1911. It is also a but more expensive. If you can find a taurus, get it. It is one of the best 1911s for the price.

For what it's worth, my brother has a Tactical model, and the fit, finish, slide to frame fit, and everything else is really good. The trigger is terrible, but that's to be expected. Given a choice, I'd probably go with Taurus, but that would be to evade the rollmarks on the RIA. The Springfield GI and Mil-Spec still seem to hover in the realm of -+$600.

Thank you. So the total vote now seems to be Taurus. The one I held felt well made. So those who own it have not had problems?

Don't have a Taurus 1911 but I have a few others and really like them.

I would not hesitate in buying another one.
            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

IIRC, the RIA 9mm 1911 isn't CA compliant. You can get it, but not worth the hassle.

                  TAURUS

Don't have the 9, but I love my .45. Spent 4 days with it at Front Sight shooting 880 rounds total. Not one problem. Handled the RIA 9mm at the store and it felt both rough and sloppy. I was told RIA is assembled in the Philippines. I was sad to see the name of a once respected armory on such a poor quality product.

This is just my preference but the 20 LPI front strap checkering on the Taurus is going to hurt your fingers. I have 20 LPI on my ATI Thunderbolt and I wish that part is just flat. To me, front strap checker has to be 30 LPI or none at all. I also don't like the wide cocking serrations on the Taurus. Again, if you are going to serrate anything it needs to be finely serrated.

They are just my personal preference though....

ive had a rock island gi .45 for around 2 years now and it has been flawless, im also happy with the fit, finish and overall quality.

ive heard a lot of bad things about taurus from people on the forums but at the same time my uncle has a taurus beretta clone that has been good to him so with taurus i guess its a wash, you either get a good one or you get a bad one

i have a Taurus 1911 in 38 super and has been extremely reliable. The finish and workmanship for the price cannot be beat.

I think the cheapo is complaint, and the tactical cheapo is not.........that's without looking at the roster. Thought I saw the regular model at Turners recently.

Edit...I was right......the target model, the regular model, and the commander size model is CA compliant. They are listed under Armscor.
