I am Building My First AR15! Help!

Hello,

I just need some input from you AR15 veterans. Yesterday I purchased a Yankee Hill YHM-15 stripped lower. I also have the lower’s internal parts, Bushmaster components.

Now, I have a question regarding the “bullet button.” Please keep in mind I’m a law abiding citizen. I usually travel to Nevada every other month and take various firearms to shoot with friends and family. I don’t feel like replacing the mag release mechanism whenever I travel to Nevada. Is there a “bullet button” sold that can temporarily attach a tool to the “bullet button” to function as a regular magazine release button?

Magnetic button "tool" that should fit right in and be used normally.

I'm pretty sure it has to be fixed or only removable on disassembly. At least that what I was told whin I built mine. Don't risk getting coughs with one that can be removed externally

There is a new version of the bullet button that has 3 settings, permanent, removable with a tool, or standard mag release. You use a tool to switch it like the raddlock.

Check out the bullet button wonder wrench. You can get me for a couple bucks and it can be screwed into the bullet button and used as a regular mag release.

I am also a part time CA resident like you going home often to Colorado. Your two main mechanical options are:

I have used both on two builds, and I personally prefer raddlock. Some of the older prince 50 bullet buttons required some cold work hammering them into the hold and I found the finish on the Raddlock better. However, I stopped installing both magazine catch springs in the Raddlock. The way the raddlock works is it uses the standard AR magazine catch spring another smaller spring and two cylinders. When you screw it down, the AR spring is compressed in the main cylinder, but the smaller spring and second cylinder is not. That 2nd cylinder is what you activate with your tool to release the magazine.

I found it easier after several installs just to unscrew the whole raddlock assembly and install a standard magazine catch when I crossed the border.

The mag magnet option that was also mentioned is a small magnet that attaches to the activation point of the bullet buttons that you can activate with your finger. Since it attaches to the gun much like the "wonder wrench" from Prince50, it is definitely only an out of state or featureless rifle component.

Also, my personal take, when I travel in California, I have a ten round magazine inserted into the magwell as the "fixed" and empty magazine
