Will ammo ever get cheaper?

Maybe once the supply fulfills the ridiculous DHS order (which our taxes are paying for) and most of the TRUE PANICKERS have their thousand rounds to sit in the basement. Then the demand will drop to normal and all those guys who took out payday loans to buy and flip ammo can sit on their ammo and cry (not really likely but whatever!)
Remember some newbies (like OP, no offense) who are knew to the sport think that ammo is supposed to cost this much, so they'll pay it.
Case in point, my friend just bought a 10/22 (he overbid on it on gunbroker!) and bought 100 rounds of "Eley" .22 for .... $30 !!!!! 100 rounds of that stuff should have cost like $4.
He bought it because we're going to an Appleseed shoot. I told him I'd give him a box of 500 bulk fed (which I paid $16 for pre-panic) but he bought those two tiny boxes anyway. Paying twice as much for 1/5 the amount is going to get really old soon. But again, newbies just buy at whatever the price.
And remember, Grandma Panic will pay $50 for 6 rounds of .38, because it's just going to sit in that old revolver by the bedstand for the next 20 years anyway.==================

But they'll make more money if they produce more ammo, even if they have to lower prices to do it. And if the current makers don't produce more, other makers will step in to take advantage of the increased profit margins until... we're back to market equilibrium.
At the moment, ammo makers are running three shifts to restore inventory to pre-panic levels. They will eventually succeed, just like they succeeded after Obama's election in 2008 when the same nonsense happened."Ecuador offers the United States $23 million a year in economic aid, an amount similar to what we were receiving under the tariff benefits, with the purpose of providing human rights training that will contribute to avoid violations of people's privacy, that degrade humanity," --Fernando AlvaradoComment

IMO, a sad reflection of our societyI was at walmart looking for white box , only 4 boxes left. Myself and another guy came around both sides of the shelf and went for the few boxes of 9mm left before I could say hi he swiped his arm across the shelf and ran to the counter with the 4 bricks of 50. Pissed of but calm I asked him if I could just get one box. He laugh and said not a chance.
This is what fellow shooters are coming to now. Many times now I have split the last boxes with the next guy in line and this happens. This is why I started this thread. Just to let off some smoke I guess.

The truth is no one will be able to answer this question. No one will know. Trends are trends but what created such trends will unlikely be the same drivers this time around. There are so many factors to pricing and supply/demand (other events, politics, etc. can affect ammo prices) so people can only guess and hope but it will be crap-shoot anyways.
Sorry, but that's the truth. The good part is that we will eventually know, and it will be 20/20 in hindsight.

As to the factories running full bore ... well ammo is like chips and/or crack. If you supply ammo, people will shoot, the more they shoot, the more they might like to shoot and the more ammo they will buy. If they restrict ammo output so that people can't get ammo easily/cheaply, then they'll shoot less or give up on the sport. People won't go to USPSA/IPSC matches because they are "hoarding" their 200 rounds. Therefore, they don't consume.
For the factories, it makes most sense to crank it out in volume.==================

Yes, No, I dunno, sure, no way, maybe, could be, probably, no way, never, it's Obama's fault, blame Canada, yes, yes, no, maybe, onion rings. That's in no particular order.==================

You seem to be disagreeing with me, not sure why.But they'll make more money if they produce more ammo, even if they have to lower prices to do it. Go draw a S/D graph. Not only can ammo makers make more money by producing more, they can make less, and vice versa.
And, it is not nonsense. It is perceived demand. You will pay more for gas if the gauge is on empty, and you want to get somewhere, than when it is on full.*REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING*Comment

Today I bought 2000 rounds of various .22 LR for an average of .09 per round so yes, at least .22 ammo is getting a bit cheaper. I don't think it will ever get back down to the .04 per round prices we had a year or two ago though.NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

Last I check, the ammo manufacturers are not the same people trying to impose gun/ammo restrictions. If you're trying to buy ammo from the latter, then sure you are absolutely right.Comment

I hope that everyone remembers the "Gougers" after the shortage ends...
I just got an e-mail from a company I've bought ammo from before (I will not mention their name because I don't want to give them ANY publicity).
500 rounds of 9MM for $279.99......
Last time I bought their 9MM it cost me $119.00 per 500.
I will remember them when this is all over............................You guys actually have 9MM in stock????
And it's How Much????

The shortage is fueled by the hoarders. In reality there is no drop in manufacturing. If anything, the manufacturers are ramping up production to keep up with demand. If everyone relax and stop hoarding, this shortage will be over immediately. I just stopped my hobby until this thing blows over because I don't wanna pay the panic price to replace my spent ammo. Everyone needs to calm down.Comment
