    Will ammo ever get cheaper?

Hi Ive recently got into the sport of shooting and purchased a G17. For the past year I've herd ammo is so expensive due to the government buying surplus. But for me it's always been these prices. So if prices go down what do you think the percentage drop will be and when do you think it will happen. I see in posts from 2009 people saying that ammo prices are up because of the same reasons now.

Are we simply creating this increase ourselves by supply and demand?

Who knows. Things started clearing up with increased 'ammo availability a couple of months ago, but suddenly I'm finding it more difficult to find 'ammo recently. Pricing seems to be steady, if not slowly declining, but I think we can forget about pre-4th Quarter 2012 prices...

No..... manufacturers saw what people were willing to pay, SO... I'm guessing it will stay higher than pre-panic prices.

Cheaper than when? Now, yes. x54 for a nickel each like 2007, no.

Prices went down after the last panic. I remember it being $32-$36 for a box of 357 range ammo. I was paying $16-$25 through December of last year. So it went down 30-50% but it took a while. Only once the supply was normalized did the prices really drop. Was it as cheap as 2007? Well have you ever heard of inflation? Of course not. But it did drop quite abit.

If the fascist laws proposed by the wannabe tyrants who disgrace the name of the city, Sacramento, get passed concerning ammo...no, prices, at least via taxes, will be high for CA. You would be talking about a $25 excise tax on a brick of 22lr...let us see, pre-panic, $15, even less....the tax would be more than its cost!

I disagree that ammo will not go down in price in general.

If you are talking about the gougers on ammo sales, for SURE. Who wants to pay $100 for a stupid box of Federal 22LR/qty 525 when they USED to be $23-25.

If you are talking about the prices of ammo at Walmart - they are pretty much in line with pre-panic prices. Some are even cheaper. IF YOU CAN FIND IT. And they are now enforcing a 3 box limit.

Big5 is still gouging. I've always hated them (for other reasons).

LGS are stuck in the middle. Some have raised prices to limit sales. Some have just kept their prices about where they were a year ago and never have stock... ( the old supply and demand chart comes to mind ).

Most places that sell reloading supplies have raised their prices 20-30% but I think this has more to do with limiting hoarding.

                .

Yes, it will. I have my significant stash of sub $0.20/round brass 9mm and I expect it will get close to that again - it may be the end of the summer, but it will get there.

Why do you think that? Just curious. Past trends?

                      YES

Walmart still sell ammo at Pre-Craze prices.

Everything will be ok. LGS have be screwed by distributors, marked up to supplement weak sales, and once they sell all their inflated ammo, everything will go back to a level we're used to, or a level us regular folk are willing to pay for.

A full pull out from Afghanistan for US forces will see an influx of "surplus" commonly used military type calibers.

nope, never. It may go down a little bit but no anymore in our future. With the MAjor push from the antigunners and d frankenstien and friends since the staged sandy shooting, they aren't gonna stop for any breaks. So don't get all happy go lucky yet at all becuz the fat lady aint gonna be singing for atleast a few years. Also don't forget that we live in our own country here kommifornia, and at this moment we are screwd bad already but just need to keep on fightn along side cgf/nra/goa in hopes of better freedom.

because ammo makers and retailers make money at that price. It is all about demand.

Oh, you're just bragging now.. (kidding)

But I agree, if you raise the price to 25cents. 9mm has been a crap-shoot - reloads can be sub 22cents and large qty sales (in the past from like Palmetto) have been in the sub 25cent range. Wally mart loads at $10 to $11 for 50 + tax were always reasonable, I thought.
