    Gun at the ready

Curious as to how everyone sets their HD gun at the ready. Chambered? Not chambered? Mag in? Mag out? Safet on? Safety off?

If you take a moment to search there are a dozen or more threads on this subject.

Google will get you the best results.

Light mounted, full mag plus one in the chamber. No manual safety. If I have to pick bit up in the middle of the night I don't want to have to mess with it. It has to be ready to go bang as soon as I have my hand on it. The seconds it takes to load a mag in the gun or chamber a round may be the deciding seconds between life and death. YMMV.

I agree. This also helps if you have other people in the house who's not familiar with guns.

Light mounted, with night sights in case needed, mag in but no round chambered, plus 2 loaded mags. 2 flashlights around the HD gun area.

Similar set up on wife's side of the bed with HD gun she is proficient and comfortablw with

Safety on and ready .... flashlight on nightstand. They have to get past my two German Shepherds first so good luck to them. I would rather feed the dogs first!

Glock 17 and CZ-PCR both loaded in a Mini-vault bolted to my dresser/nightstand. Takes 1 second to open in the pitch-black night, I love it. I have kids and about 15 other neighbor kids who are always in my house (wife is a girlscout leader) so a night stand safe is a must. The rest of my guns are locked in my safe which is locked in my office closet via keypad deadbolt and my office is lock with another keypad deadbolt. I really take securing my firearms seriously. Nothing upsets me more than hearing about stolen firearms. I never want mine used to murder anyone on the street.

1911 sitting next to my bed cocked and locked with a full mag sitting next to it.

No kids in my house so theres not as much to worry about leaving it out.

I prefer guns with safeties, if you choose something like a 1911 do some practice flipping the safety off while picking it up/unholstering

Mines a double barrel trap shotgun with 2 3" mag rounds using 0 buck. No light, no frills but I am extremely competent at point and shoot CQB. When I (or my wife) wakes up for the day, its unloaded and the rounds are put away. During the day we have a bat and 2 bite trained dogs.
