    Expired registration.....

My vehicle registration card expired and the damn dmv is taking forever to get me my new one. Can I still use my registration as proof of residency if it expired a couple weeks ago? Or do I have to wait to get the new one?
    Thanks

That same thing happened to me and the FFL gave me a lot of grief for it...I had to go home and get my utility bill, and that worked. I was not a happy camper about that...

Only a VALID registration card is acceptable as proof of residency.
Expired by even one day is no longer valid.

May I just say that the fine gentlemen of this forum seem to have a penis and testicle signature fixation?

You can also use your fishing license or hunting license.

It's kinda funny how you can use a fishing license as a form of ID....issued by the state- AT WALMART -by a toothless employee. But hey it's ok....she left the toy department to help me and acted as an agent of the state.

Technically, you can use anything issued by the government (license, permit, registration, etc) as long as it has your name and current address on it.

This is correct however, a particular FFL in Orange, right next to a car dealership, will only take, a utility bill, or car registration. In fact, the other items were a point of contention because, when mentioned I would be using a license (Issued by the State with all the required information) I was told, its their policy to only accept, the above mentioned items, and "there may be other places willing to bend the rules".
Thats when I informed him, using the items allowed by the DOJ is NOT bending the rules, it may bend YOUR shops rules, and thats fine.
I took my business to Fowlers who DROS'd the purchase no problem with the proof of residency that the DOJ allows.

I know which FFL you speak of. And it's a shame that he has that rule, but at the same time, car registration or utility bill covers 95% of the people buying handguns so he's not losing business.

I've had people use all kinds of things. One gentleman used his CA Dealer's license (looks just like a CDL but allows him to be a car salesman), I've had others use real estate licenses, Contractor Licenses, etc.

I think the best one though was the guy who used a speeding ticket.

why not just call your FFL and tell them what's going on and they can tell you what you can bring or not? Simple but it would probably get you a better answer. Straight from the horse's mouth...

Yes it is great when you can good info from the source.

Unfortunately, there are many people people out there who's answers are generated from the other end of the horse.

No, I don't think that will fly on the license issue, but I may be wrong.

I would call my ffl if I knew which one I was going to be using for my transfer.

                            http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/regs/chapter4.pdf
"1. A current, government-issued (city, county, special district, state, or federal) license, permit, or registration, other than a California Driver License or California Identification Card, that has a specified expiration date or period of validity. The license, permit, or registration must bear the individual's name and either of the following:
                            A. The individual's current residential address as declared on the Dealer's Record of Sale (DROS) form.
                            B. The individual's address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card, or change of address attachment thereto."

Well damn, it looks like I can use it technically?

Uhhh you don't know? Well then I suggest probably calling around to a couple of different ones and ask your question. It only takes a min or two. I did this when I was getting my Glock G29. AND if a FFL is willing to use whatever you got to process the paperwork.... You got a WINNER! If not, then call the next one to see if it is possible.
