Help me decide on a 9mm! M&P, Walther, CZ

I'm trying to figure out which one to go with. I love my Glock, but the ergonomics are getting on my nerves, and I need a 9mm.

The M&P is the cheapest and easiest to get. The CZ-75b SP01 is hard to find right now. The Walther probably has the best trigger out of the box, but is off roster so I have to go through the whole SSE rigamarole. I've shot both the CZ and the M&P and I like them both. I think I tend to prefer the striker fired style pistols to the DA/SA hammer from a practical standpoint, but an all metal gun is just freaking cool sometimes. I still haven't shot the PPQ, as they're super rare in CA, but I've held a P99 and I like the ergonomics. I imagine the PPQ is pretty much the same, but with a nicer trigger/reset.

Can anyone chime in with their opinion? Especially if you have experience with any of these three pistols?

What is going to be your primary use of the gun? CC, target, competition?

No, your post didn't exclude or include any likes or dislikes, other than not liking hammers (wrong), and sort of liking non polymer (could be not wrong).

I would wait until things settle down, and don't forget, your Glock is a pretty good gun. Just don't reholster it.

I'd go with the P99. Its on roster and doesn't require SSE. Trigger reset is very close to PPQ. CZ would be my third choice. I own all three.

The Sig 239 or 229 with short trigger and short reset is an excellent choice as well.

I second the question - for what purpose? I also throw out that your interests make it sound like you might want to buy more than one this year. I think you should buy the one that most attracts you first - so you don't jones for it later. Also, shot them if you can that is what it is all about. Don't over look HKs- the P30 is a dream to hold- you won't want to out it down. Of your mentioned choices the MP is my choice. Best ergonomics and great after market support for a super drop in APEX trigger if you ever decide to shoot USPSA production case at a high level. But that said, save your nickels and get more than one. Note: there is some risk of SSE going away so maybe look that direction first. Good luck.

All three are great guns. I think the Walther PPQ is near perfection, it is well worth the SSE hassle/cost.

I don't have any experience with CZs but I'm a long time Glock shooter. I carry one on duty and own or have owned almost every model Glock makes with the exception of the GAPs and 10mm models. Last year I went looking for a different off duty gun. I went through a G26 and Khar PM9. Both were nice but I wanted something different. In August, I lucked out and picked up an M&P Shield , 9mm for a Great price. It is now my main off duty carry.

I liked it so much that last month I picked up a full size M&P 9mm. Great deal (560.00 out the door) with night sights and 3 mags. I just shot it for the first time Monday and love it. It will probably replace my Gen4, 22 as the house gun. I read many folks complain about the trigger/ reset with the M&P. I find it very easy to shoot, but I might have one of the newer triggers since it was built near the end of January. And no, I don't have any plans to put any APEX parts in it.

The grip/ extra backstraps are nicer/more comfortable for me than the Glock. the Glock only changes trigger reach (if you are lucky enough to score a Gen 4 gun). The M&P adds girth to the palm area of the grip. I'm using the medium, but the small felt good also. the large was too big for my medium sized hands.

My only complaint if you can call it one, is the number of parts the Smith has. I can detail strip a Glock without thinking about it. The Smith seems a bit more complex.

                Hope this helps.

To me, the CZ 75 platform is the sweetest shooting 9mm pistol in the world. There's a flavor for any of your needs whether it's home defense, CCW, or competition.

OP- I don't own any of the three pistols you listed, but seems like the M&P in 9mm would be a great buy. I don't care for S&W much, but gotta give props to that model, seems like a great firearm.

If you carry a duty gun as well as a off duty your probably well trained. I would recommend to carry exactly the same pistol for both, with the same holster/retention system, and additional mags in the same position/type if possible. Reason why is under high stress situation, off duty you reach for your sidearm, but your holster retention is now a strap instead of index finger release, you start to do the "Holster Dance" trying to free your gun. You figure out it has a snap strap retention, unhook it, remembered your 5 point draw, have cleared all the 4 basic firearms safety rules, align the sights on the T zone, because the bad guy has a loved one in a choke hold, with a gun pointed at their head or at you, but you still manage to squeeze the trigger perfectly and.......... Nothing, because instead of having a striker fire Glock, you have a brand new decked out single action pistola with a manual safety. Between all the time it took you figure things out how many times do you think the scum bag could have fired at you or your love one with the one and only gun he has ever had or used?

My suggestion would be a subcompact for both or a full size for duty and subcompact for off ie G17 and a G19

I have shot both m&p and cz. When I decided to shop for an additional 9mm (I have a G17) I went with CZ. I like the all steel and think that the trigger is better. I haven't looked back and don't think I would.
