Glock Upgrades

For a carry gun, I would personally only change the sights. Nothing internal.

For a range gun, go all out if you want and drop internal "upgrades" if you want.

I personally have a spare parts kit for G19. My "just in case kit" consist of all OEM parts: Recoil Spring Assembly (2), Firing Pin Spring, Trigger Spring, Plunger Spring, Trigger Housing w/30275 ejector, non-dipped extractor, slide stop, stock sights, pin set.

Is it necessary? No, but that is just how I am. I know it will come in handy down the road.

Don't you need two spare part kits? What happens if you need one? Then you have none. And...do you carry this spare kit with you to the range where you might need it?

Better bulit a bigger boat...I mean door. The belief is that a shooter with spare parts usually have spare ammo, spare food and spare water too. You may have lots of unexpected friends come to your house when the SHTF. That is a great spare parts list. Good work.

IMO any production handgun can be improved out of the box. Glocks do not need much but there are some upgrades like the ones listed here:

There is nothing wrong with having spare OEM parts and lots of NATO standard 9mm on hand for qualified training. We used to call it, ‘Having priorities’. But that was a long time ago.

I can't for the life of me understand why people think 100% stock is the best, there's not a production handgun out there that's perfect for everyone out of the box. And let's not get started on the crappy extraction that many people experienced that was solved by the aftermarket.

Stock is the most reliable. Whenever we've seen a Glock go down it was usually an aftermarket part.

People buy guns, can't hit the broad side of a barn standing in one, so they want a bunch of aftermarket parts, when really all they need more time behind the trigger more than anything else.

It depends on what the aftermarket parts are... Vickers, Hackathorn and Harrington have more experience than probably anyone on this board and have witnessed millions of rounds down range so I doubt they will endorse anything that isn't reliable.

I just got my first Glock 19 too. I ordered a Glock 17 smooth trigger for it, a set of XS 24/7 big dot sights, and the Glock extended slide release. I have put about 500 round through mine and I plan on putting a few more hundred through next week after I install my new toys.

I got a weaponlight, upgraded sights, and a hogue grip for mine and that is about as far as I'm going to go.

Glock didn't belcome LEs favorite pistol because it had an after market whorlygig embedded in or attached to it. I know some of our friends are making a few bucks selling non standard replacement parts for Glock Pistols, but here is how I see it:

For every 1 Glock Pistol molested in the name of, 'Sport', or, 'Shooter Performance improvement', there are 5 to 10 unmolested Glocks in the hands of private owners and LEOs that shoot better with identical stock models, despite the fact that these formerly mentioned shooters are not shooting enthusiasts. In the end it's your gun. Have fun. Shoot fast and don't miss.

Upgrade your Glock? Sell it and buy a Sig.

In all seriousness, I'm not against upgrades (especially ones that can't be screwed up - VZ grips on a 1911 - or that are done by a pro), but no need to start making changes before you even put a round down the barrel.

Most counties don't allow many upgrades to any weapons for CCW.

Best thing is have some night sights installed, but lots of ammo and get some training with it.
