    Ammo by UPS?

I have not ordered ammo over the Internet before, buying locally. Local ammo has been spotty at best as everyone knows.
I am concerned about UPS just leaving my order on the sidewalk while I am not home so would rather have it sent to my office.
Office has a strict policy against firearms on company property and granted ammo is not a firearm, I feel I don't want to take a wack at the hornet's nest.

How is an ammo package labeled?
Would it be obvious to the secretary who will sign for it and anyone else who sees it sitting on my desk?

    Thank you in advance!

The best idea is to find out where the UPS office is that will do the delivery and ask the sender to have it held there. Then you can pick it up on your way home.

There was a thread on here a while back about a guy getting fired for doing just what you say. Better to be safe and have it held at the receiving UPS office.

    That always works for me

I have UPS just leave on my doorstep. It is usually a plain looking box with a small sticker that says ORD. The sticker is small about 1x2 inches.

I have had ammo shipped to my door no problem. There are others who would say different though. Guess its just the luck of the draw.

          Thanks for the info!
If the sticker is that small and says ORD that sounds like a 3 letter airport identifier - Orlando?

Here's what I do (and I order A LOT of ammo online):

            1. Place order
            2. Get the tracking number once it's shipped
            3. Reroute the package the your nearest UPS Store, etc. (you can do that online as well, you might have to create an account at ups.com). You will usually have 5 days to pick it up (you can usually pick it up on weekends, as well).

I do the same for FedEx orders as well (for FedEx, you can just go their site, enter the tracking number and re-route, without the need to create an account, etc.).

Works like a charm for me. Hope this helps.

Having it held at the UPS office where it get routed to is okay, and I used to do that. The only problem is, you have to deal with a big line picking it up (i.e. people picking up their packages, mailing packages, etc.). Of course, that could vary depending on where you live.

You can also request that it's signature required delivery. I don't let them leave a big box of ammo on my porch without someone home. It's worth more than gold these days.

The correct label looks like this, not necessarily this color.

I do a signature-required and once it ships, have it "hold for pickup" at the UPS distribution center. Ammunition is supposed to be marked "ORM-D SMALL ARMS CARTRIDGES" or bear the new black and white diamond sticker. I always spec adult signature required and overbox. They have to put the ORM-D sticker, as above on it, but at least it doesn't "Remington 30-06" or whatever all over it.

UPS stores are usually franchises, and they don't generally accept ammunition to ship or pickup. So you have to find the UPS warehouse and have it sent there, most likely.

Fedex Ground has no problem with hold for pickup at Fedex (formerly Kinkos) retail locations. They are usually cheaper.

Unless you want to get fired, do not send it to your office if they have a no-ammo policy in place. Send it to your house, when you get the tracking number, change it online to will-call hold for pickup.

Packaging depends on which online store you buy from. I buy ammo online all the time and only had once that it was shipped in the original ammo mfg box.

I've had to sign for all ammo deliveries, whether FedX or UPS but I work at home so it's no problem.

As others said, having it held at UPS/FedX is your best bet. I think someone mentioned a thread here where a gun got fired for having gun parts sent to his work.

                        1. Don't have any firearm related packages delivered to your work
                        2. Sign up for UPS My Choice and have the package rerouted to your closest The UPS Store or UPS Customer Center

Simple route is to check with your employer to see if this would be an issue.

FWIW, never had an issue with UPS Store of Fedex/Kinkos outlet holding my ammo packages (I've done it maybe 10 times). YMMV

Kinda depends where you live. My neighborhood is all old people and we have great neighbors so a package on the porch is common. On the otherhand...holding at the UPS store is a great idea too! But...
I have met great folks on the Private Ammo forum and have purchased about 1000 rounds from really cool people. Some ship, some FTF...they have all been great guys and the prices have always been reasonable!
