keep in mind that most california ffl's will make you pay tax even though it was bought from a private seller. make sure and choose your ffl wisely

I fixed that for you...

I've never had a ffl ask for the tax. I've transfered alot of ffl's both in SoCal and NoCal. I know there are some that do from reading various posts, so I'm not discounting what you say. Just it's not "most".

WTF??!? How would an ffl even begin to explain how they are above federal law? Ever since Al Gore invented the internot, it has been common knowledge you CANNOT charge a person STATE tax on an item sold to an OUT OF STATE person via mail. Inter country customs and duties are different than inter state.

I'd like to hear this one although it is OT. Since the OP's answer has found already and all.

I believe some FFLs charge for California State sales tax. Purchasing an item from out of state does not necessarily exempt you from paying sales tax these days, as the California Tax return forms ask you to state the amount of out of state purchases made and pay the sales taxes on them. Selling an item from California to out of state does not require tax collection.

It has to do with the BOE taking the position that if an out-of-state FFL ships a firearm to an in-state FFL for the DROS, the transaction is considered a drop shipment and subject to CA tax. If shipped from a out-of-state private party, not considered a drop shipment and not subject to CA tax.

I have a deal with a Dallas Tx resident to purchase an H&K P7M8 (Crazy Money!), which is on the Kalifornia DOJ approved firearm list. My FFL guy says gun must be shipped from Tx FFL, no problem right?

Seller calls me and says he spoke with 5 gun dealers in his area and none will handle the transfer One dealer hung up on him when her heard Kalifronia...

WTF - Try to do things the right way and this BS happens

I'm open to suggestions, there must be another was to skin this cat
