I recently picked up a new G17 (gen 3) and although I really like the gun, the recoil spring squeaks like an old mattress. Though I cant hear the squeak while shooting it, it is obviously loud and annoying when I rack the slide by hand. I put about 50 rnds through it today and it shot OK, I had 2 brass to the face but otherwise it was OK. As far as the squeaky spring .... is this normal and will it resolve the more I use it?

They all squeak like that from the flat spring rubbing against the guide rod.
Just put some oil on the recoil guide rod, rack the slide a few times, and it should quiet down a bit. Please verify historical quotes before putting them in your signature.Comment

You must be from California.
It is cold, it's too hot, the dust get in my eyes, my gun will get dirty. My feet hurt. And now your Glock 17 squeaks. Really. Do tell.
Do some of you now understand why some pistol training is done by invitation only?Comment

Sounds like it is a misfit gun. You may send it to the island of misfit guns (my house) at your earliest convenience. You shouldn't have to put up with a squeaky gun especially when they claim 'perfection'."When you get the (men) to the range, you just get the men. It's the recoil spring rubbing the guide rod, just a drop of oil will fix it.I recently picked up a new G17 (gen 3) and although I really like the gun, the recoil spring squeaks like an old mattress. 2 out of 50 brass hits your face and it's the gun? Is this your first Glock?Comment

What I would be more concerned about is the loud bang after the trigger is pulled. Has that happened yet?You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby.... You're gonna.............................................Comment

Only new recoil springs are "squeaky"; it'll quiet down after a few hundred. Also, make sure you seat the guide rod all the way down onto the barrel lug every time you disassemble/reassemble. ALSO, you can try rotating the guide rod until you find a position where it squeaks less/not at all. I wouldn't oil the guide rod or the spring... But at any rate, the squeaky is normal in a new guide rod.Comment
