    Springfield XD tactical 45ACP

Well Im trying to convert my 45 acp into a compition gun and so far all I did was purchased a prp match trigger kit. As far as which sight to go with and to install, I dont know what else to do.

For non-adjustable rears, check out the Heinie's.
Dawson's fiber front (they also have lots of sights to choose from).

And of course Pistol Gear for anything else you like to upgrade.

Sell it and buy a 9mm, unless you plan on making it a limited/open gun, then buy a 40.

Seriously, been there done that. Wish I would have done it sooner.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good and cheap gun smith because the one I called wanted $45 just to put on the sights, or if anything does anyone have a video or tips on how to take it out and place the new ones.

45 is a deal to change sights on an XD. XD sights are notoriously hard to get out.

If I could get it out without any damage I woundnt mind it being a PITA but paying $45 to have someone do it when the sights cost only 70-100 then I would do it myself.

Also can someone break down how a recoil spring exactly works like more lbs gives it more snap while less lbs have less recoil or how ever it goes.

I run my XD45 Tactical in IDPA CDP division and USPSA L10. Fun gun to shoot.

                  Mine has:

                  - a Springer trigger kit + PRP trigger that has the over-travel stop built into it.

                  - PistolGear stainless guide rod with the factory recoil spring

                  - Heinie Ledge rear sight (all black) matched to a Dawson Fiber Optic front sight (.160T x .1W) - this combo took some experimentation with front-sight height, but the gun is now zeroed for me with 230gr hard ball.

                  - Decal Grip for the XD45 (sandpaper material)

My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Nice, I was wondering did you do your own sights or had a gunsmith do it and as for the trigger job, what is the main difference between springer triger kits vs prp trigger kits?

A friend who has access to liquid nitrogen froze and removed the old sights (destroying the rear in the process). Unfortunately, this is a reality with XDs.

Once he got the old ones out for me, I used my XD sight pusher to mount and adjust the new ones.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between Springer and Powder River. I installed the PRP Ultimate Match Target Trigger Kit into a friend's XD Tactical. It took a fair amount of basic fitting, but in the end, his trigger feels pretty close to mine.

You could always buy a sight tool and do it yourself. you'll probably change sights more than once to find something that works good for you. It's about $150 shipped to you . . . think of it as a investment

So what are the rules and regulations for these events and how would I go about to join?

If you had a XD sight pusher why didnt you use it to push it out? Also cant I just use that dust off for computer and just turn it upside down along with frezing it? Im in the process of building me a pusher to push it out than spending 80+ for the tool.

                          Question
1-Whats better tfo, trituim, fiber optics sights? Because im looking at the true glow TFO

                          2-Is fixed/ adjustable better

3-Why did you upgrade the guide rod? Is it heaver than factor which helps you with the muzzle rise? And why not just put a bit/rod in the guide rod?

4-If Im shooting 230gr bullets would I need a heaveir or light recoil spring?

Before you go start modifying your gun, you need to read up on the different types of competition shooting, and the divisions you can compete in. The two most popular "action" type shooting competitions are

                            and

I'll give my take on this, but I know gryff and others will have different perspectives on it. I shot in USPSA production.

First as far as sights. Again, XD's have notoriously hard to get out sights. Using a pusher doesn't always work, this is why quite a few gun shops will NOT work on XD's for sight work.

                            1. A lot of guys like either blade front, and serrated back, or a Fiber optic front and a plain black rear. I'm, odd, I like having all three dots, go figure.

                            2. Just matters if fixed work for your load POA/POI.

                            3. Some people feel it helps mitigate muzzle flip.

                            4. You can't just go off the bullet weight, charge weight has a lot to do with it. I know when I was shooting my XD, I was using a 200 g Berrys HP in front of 4.2g 231, and it felt light with just a standard spring.

If you haven't gone out and shot a match/practice yet, GO DO THAT. Then start worrying about upgrades. You never know what you really need until you start shooting. H

As far as sights go then, what would be my best bet? and atm im shooting 230gr RN with 7.5g of acc #5 and also with bullseye 5.6g and im having a tad bit of muzzle rise. As far as POA/POI it seems pretty good but as far as testing it past 25yards I havent done paper targets to tell the difference but with steel at 25-50yards seems to be dead on as well.
