I have the M&P9 and I shot it side by side with a 226 in 9mm and they're both solid performers. The differences I noticed between them is that the sig's grip sucks poop compared to the variable grips you can put on the M&P. That should end the debate..oh, and all sigs are uglier than sin and overpriced! lol

But seriously, both had the same, easily manageable recoil (for 9mms), both around 25oz in weight unloaded I believe..maybe sig is more, trigger smoothness was the same though the M&P is a two part trigger that snaps nicely. Bore axis on M&P is lower than the sig but doesn't matter because they both handle recoil the same.

Hard choices between the two...grip feel seems to be the only difference..and of course appearance!

Get the Smith, it's a great design. I have one in .45, and after well over 1k rounds, not one malfunction. You can't beat the $50 rebate and 2 free mags. In 9mm, I think I'd go for the compact since you can only have 10 rds anyhow.

Sig P226 was what i had,till the ex-wife threw it away and now buried in the crazyhorse landfill out side of Salinas/Prunedale along with a Ruger blackhawk 3 Screw 357 and whole long list of shooting and hunting aids.Not on purpose,but at least it didn't fall into some else's hands at least i hope not.But you Can't go wrong with that choice.

226 is just a solid gun with a great trigger. haven't found better in an all purpose pistol. grips are a little wide, even worse with pachmayr's but workable...

That's funny because the P226R is a very fine looking handgun while I think all the XD, M&P, Glock crap look like the Toyota Corollas of the gun world.

You know, I voted for the Sig P226 and I own a P226R in 9mm. Interestingly, I took it to the range last night after a long hiatus. I love shooting that gun, even though my DA shots always suck. The grip is simply to big and my fingers are not long enough to pull the long DA trigger. In SA mode I routinely put 30-40 shots into 2" groups at 7 yards. The SA trigger is sweeeeeet....

The biggest gripe that I have is when I bring it home and start cleaning it. It takes me 10 minutes to clean a Glock, it takes me 40 minutes to clean a Sig. All those little nooks and crannies I have to try and get to with q-tips....just annoying. Last night I actually decided to sell the Sig ... So if you are in LA area and want a great deal on a 226....

Also, DA is when you pull the trigger and the hammer back at the same time, correct? SA is the hammer is already back and ready to fire, correct?


My finger from the knuckles is 3.5 inches, so is that sufficient for a DAK trigger?

If you decide on getting a Sig in 45, check out the 220 ST model. It's a whole different animal from their other offerings. Sig doesn't make them anymore but there are still a few brand new ones at different stores.

ST as in the stainless model? I'll be sure to look around.



BTW, anyone know of a place that has most every CA approved handgun in OC? I know Stockade is well supplied. How about Ade's?

Of those on your list I would go for the 226. My friend has one, and it shoots great! I really like it. I have also tried one that was DAK, and I was not a fan at all. Thats all personal preference though!
