        Pythons only real rival is the model 27, some would argue Pythons are to delicate and after a while can go out of time, especially with heavy loads, in continous double action mode. I suspect those Pythons have really been abused, a Python should give you decades of trouble free use, unless your stupid with it. Who shoots double action anyway, i never see it at the gun range.

          Only people who know how to fight with a revolver. Single action is fun, but you aren't going to get off six accurate rounds in four seconds with it.

            But alas, the Colt's are worth 2-3 times the 586's. Luckily, I'm not selling.

            I don't know what pistol that is, but it's not a Python - the sigght placement is wrong a ndthe Python didn't have a hammer mounted firing pin. Maybe it's a Manhurin or a Korth, but not a Python.

                  The python is a work of art that manufacturers don't produce any more. The way it was designed and built puts quality and smoothness of operations above cost savings (which is sadly every manufacturer's concern these days). It's like a high end product (say, cars) that are produced in limited quantity, but kept at a high quality for those with discriminating taste. Ashton Martin comes to mind. You can buy a more functional luxury GT for less, but there is just something about the history/lineage, the allure, and the emotional response that it evokes, that others can't match.

                      Every Python I've ever shot had the smoothest double action I've ever felt. The downside is their fragility, both from long use with heavy loads (I've seen a couple go out of time but it took a lot of abuse to do it) and the easy to snap off hammer spur (one of my watch partners dropped his from behind a barricade, about 2 1/2 feet; it landed on the spur and that was it) requiring a trip back to the factory for a new hammer.
                      I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

                        To be, or not to be: that is the question:
                        Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
                        The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
                        Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
                        And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

                            Python blue is well known but S&W has done some great blue as seen on

                                pretty but overrated and seriously overpriced. The Colt name and blue are selling points, but the corresponding S&W's of the same period(s) will go toe-to toe with them anyday
