The single action is not better than a S&W and all this for twice the money. If you shoot too many magnum loads, you will need some tuning, good luck finding a gunsmith willing to work on a Python.

    They have that look though
    They have gotten waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive, even for how nice they are. A pre-1960 S&W 27 is just as nice or nicer than any Python. The appeal of the Python is the look, the nostalgia, their use in video games, and the fact that they are no longer made that has made them stupid expensive.

    Remember that for all the talk about how nice they lock up, the lock work is the same as many Colts, such as the Officers Model Match, which can be found for $300-$500 all day long.

          You think Steve McQueen would have bought an H&R copy?? lolz
          But I agree - it seems a bit light for a Python.

                Coz they are the super model of revolvers, nothing else comes close.

                  I've owned both S&W 586 and 686 (early 1980s - the 686 was a Hunter Classic), and Pythons (since mid 1970s) and from a production/out-of-the-box perspective, in my opinion, there was really no comparison in the smoothness of the action. Sold the Smiths in 1993 to help with a down payment on a house. I still have my Pythons.

                    They weren't in any video games when I first laid my hands on one and heard and felt that single action "click". There was a very jealous 686 nearby and for $925, even in the condition that was probably in, I think he mentioned "holster wear", you could have turned it around and made $250-300 in the same thread.

                    I'm assuming that's a production still from 'The Living Dead'? Good on them, but most Python fans don't need Hollywood to tell them what they already know.

                        The reason for the thread was I just brought these two in on a trade today...

                        6" Blue Python:

                        ...and 8 3/4" S&W Model 29-3 Nickel:

                        Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
                        And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

                              But alas, the Colt's are worth 2-3 times the 586's. Luckily, I'm not selling.

                              But, the Python, Anaconda have that really awesome rail above the barrel..

                                Python

                                I bought my Python in 1978 NIB for 389.50. Dave's guns in Costa Mesa CA, Dave's always had a pot of coffee on for us .The Python has been used little ,6 inch barrell, extra set of rubber grips and a set of Mother of Pearl that I bought from the Owner of Eagle Grips at the Las Vagas arms show. Fine gun nice action. I also bought a 4" Diamond back from Dave. This gun was shot alot. All the small shops around here are gone. Little John's still has coffee for us , I bought a Colt Trooper MK111 ,Nickel with 5 Inch barrell there. Troopers are great too.
