So, my dad, in South Carolina, wants to give me his Taurus m405. Since it isn't on the list I am guessing that we can't do a father to son FFL transfer. Yes?
Having never dealt with CA's crazy handgun list do things come on and off frequently? If it isn't on there now will it ever be on there? Wait 3 months and it might be?
I guess I am just curious as to how much movement goes on with the list and if I should wait it out or have him sell it to someone in his home state.
Or, since it seems the fee is only $200 and at one point it was on the list, can a normal human pay the fee to get it back on? That seems like a dumb question, but you never know.

If the two of you are both in California have your dad ship the gun to you. Go to the DOJ's website and download the Intrafamilar/OpLaw form and fill it out, pay the fee and mail it in.

If you and your dad on both on good terms with each other, I would just have him ship the gun, FED or UPS, not through the mail to you. Then I would just hold to it, enless you ever tried to put it on a ccw permit or you got in trouble with it, you would be fine. Then when / if you out live your father there is a dmv where you can fill out and transfer form father to son after death. This would be a lot easier if he had lived in California at one time.

Second way, if you happen to be good friends with a peace officer with valid peace officer id the gun could be legally shipped to him and put in his name avoiding any DOJ issues, then have the peace officer hold it for about 2 to 3 months and switch into your name.
