Difficult to rack slide on M&P 9C

Just picked up an M&P 9C. I own 2 P95s and they seem much easier to rack the slide. One of the P95s has 500-600 rounds through it and the other is virtually brand new. These take about half the force of my M&P to rack.

Even my dad thought it was hard to rack the slide. The mags were also so tight that I couldn'tt fit a tenth round into and it was extremely difficult to lock a mag in place. I did the magazine mod and those symptoms are remedied but the slide is still extremely tight.

i bought it used but it only has 80 rounds through it. Will it get better with time? Do I need to just pick up my skirt or is this something inherent to the M&P?

I dunno, push the pistol away with your firing hand at the same time you rack the slide. That's what my wife has to do

How are you racking the slide? With a new gun I typically use both hands to push the slide and frame towards opposite directions. As far as the hardware goes it'll get better with time.

For what is worth you NEED two hands to rack the slide on a new les baer.

I was able to get S&W to send me new springs for my mags (M&P 9 Full size). When I swapped them out I was able to get the 10th round in with a speed loader. Others have reported receiving the older style follower, but achieved the same result of being able to shove in that last round.

Thanks for the replies. I rack it with my weak hand over the top while pushing the frame with my shooting hand. I've been racking it everyday to break it in. I guess it's just an excuse to go shoot it!

Nothing breaks in a firearm better than running some ammo through it

Maybe the previous owner put in an extra power recoil spring because he was shooting hot loads?
Perhaps get a few different lighter springs from Midway and try each at the range for until you find a good combination of brass-throw and feeding.
For 1911's, the Wolff tuning spring pack has like 10 different weights for trial and error.

The gun is super stiff and will break in nicely. Just shoot it.

As for the mag get a speed loader and save your thumbs. Best $35 I have spent on firearms accessories.

a pack of wolff springs is a good idea. i had to do the same for my a cz75b. however, shooting some rounds through it will help a lot as well.

as for new les baers... i see a lot of people smacking the muzzle end of the gun (when they know its empty) just to loosen it up and then rack it with 2 hands. point being, some guns are just really tight when you first get them.

My M&P9c is still difficult to release the slide with the lever but you just need to keep shooting and it will break in nicely.

I had the same issue, for about a year or two. Now it racks nicely, but no where near the ez of a ruger p95. when i had my p95 i could rack the slide by cocking the hammer with my thumb and with one hand, move back and foward quickly.

I was always able to get the 10th round in, but the ones I found to suck the most were the first two and the last. After the third round, up to the 9th it was easy as cake.

                              Wonder why.
