    Beretta M9A1

Hi all, I am interesting in acquiring a Beretta M9A1 and was wondering if ones sold in California ship with the specially coated magazines? Are the capacities limited to 10 rounds?

I don't know what you mean by "specially coated magazines". Most Beretta magazines come blued, though parkerized and nickel are pretty common (mine are all parkerized). And yes, the magazines sold with the weapon will be ten rounders (unless you're a cop, I suppose), as with all handguns here in California

    EDIT: corrected myself

Some newer model M9A1s come with dust-resistant PVD coated magazines.

Interesting, I haven't seen those as far as I know. Isn't "PVD" a coating on top of a coating? Meaning it could be applied to blued or parkerized magazines ( just did a quick search, but didn't find much real info)?

Must be nice- I'll have to look for some. The ONLY problems I have ever had with M9's have been magazine or ammo related

SilverTauron is correct. In most other states, the 15-round magazines that you would get with the M9A1 would be the PVD-coated, sand-resistant magazines. Unfortunately, the M9A1's that you would purchase here in California will just come with normal, plain jane 10-round magazines.

I recently bought an m9a1 from parallax tac in sd. They gave me the two sand resistant mags disassembled as rebuild kits. The thing that sucked was that I had no useable mags, but i got some 10 round mags later. Not sure what your lgs would do

Thanks for the responses. California's law regarding magazine capacity makes me a sad panda.

Don't be sad... Just get it in the configuration you can. It is a really fun and accurate gun, and with the all metal frame it has virtually no felt recoil.

Kinda hard to shoot with just the rebuild kits... That would make me a sad Panda.

If you had the choice between the M9 and an Italian made 92FS, which would you choose and why? I was told it doesn't really matter, but if I knew at the time, I would have acquired the M9.

Also, any suggestions for a grip upgrade? Is it 'tacticool'/ not smart to take the Italian made 92FS and place M9 grip bolts on it?

                        Thanks.

What do these rebuild kits do? Is it a way around the 10 round magazine limit?

You can have them, you just can't use them in CA or any other "low capacity" state. No, there is no way around the 10 rd limit in CA.

Rebuild kits are meant to be used to repair any damaged, existing magazines that you may have. However, if you want to actually use the rebuild kits with your gun, then you're gonna have to block off the bottom of the magazine so that it can only hold 10 rounds.
