Yeah me to, I'd rather just get a sig 556 pistol. That's on my buy list

I've wanted to build one for a while. No purpose other than fun. Muzzle blast -- flames and boom -- is fun. Turning gun powder into noise and fire, basically

BUT... they can actually be very accurate, and even though you lose velocity with a short barrel, it's still an extremely fast, powerful round compared to normal handguns. You can't have a stock, but with a sling you can push the gun away from your body and the pull on the sling will keep it quite stable.

You mean because it doesn't have a buffer tube hanging off the back? Pretty much the same thing AFAIAC.

I always thought an AR pistol was totally useless until I watched a guy get permission to run one through a USPSA COF at Richmond. The guy was WAY faster with it than he was with his standard pistol.

Will never buy one, but I was convinced it is a functional weapon on the spot.

An AR Pistol is the closest us mere mortals (citizens) can currently get to an SBR AR15 in this @#$! state. While they can be fired just like an actual rifle (shouldered), the lack of a stock makes that kind of position far less than idle. And with no suppressor (another NFA item citizens in Free Amercia have access to that we don't), an AR Pistol is extremely LOUD.

So while one could technically use an AR Pistol (chambered in something like 300 AAC Blackout preferably) to hunt, without a stock or suppressor, they aren't very practical for much.

          But they sure are FUN!

            The purpose is:

It's a pistol, and we can have one

There doesn't need to be anything more than that.

I use mine to shoot! Yes very fun. Also very compact. With the red dot it is very accurate and easy to shoot. I can get a good cheek weld on the buffer tube which makes it stable enough to shoot well. Plus I have other ARs and this is nice to have in the collection

I've never shot one before(The Sig displayed at Ammo Bros looked like a lot of fun!) but I'd like to think they're more practical than just designated range toys. If I had a CCW, one stowed in the glove box or in-between the seats would be great. Heck, I guy I subscribe to can conceal carry his AKM-pistol in a jacket. Would be a nice home defense weapon, I would think.

Edit: I watched this the day I saw the Sig pistol at the shop a few months ago. I think it's a great vid explaining the usefulness:

Its my CA legal SBR. That buffer tube cheek weld is very effective.

I use the sling arm my neck an wrapped around my arm, similar to how it may be used with a rifle. Seems to work decent.

Will have to try it the way shown in the video. What type of sling was that?

Its really fun and the closest thing we got to a SBR. I had one with a piggy brake(noveske kx3). It was loud!! and sight acquisition was great with iron sights or a red dot.

Don't look at it as investment. Firearms are to be enjoyed, not flipped. Believe me, it's fun. However, if its not your cup of tea, it isn't.

Besides, who needs to shoulder 5.56? There is essentially no recoil.

I am building one and it will simply have a laser for sighting. Hold it hip level and light up what I am shooting at.
