Glock 19 or USP or USPc

sorry guys this might be a waste of bandwith but i need your opinions on buying my first handgun. I've tried all 3 of the listed and they all feel comfortable in my hand. I am a person who has an obssession with modifying things first it was cars but recently i've been getting into handguns. My choices are Glock 19/HK USP.40/HK USPc.40. Some people have suggested i buy a compact because i am not a big guy. I am 5'8 and 180 lbs. medium build. This gun will be used for home protection/range shooting. Well if you guys could help me with comments and suggestions it would be greatly appreciated thanks. I will list what i like and don't like about each.

Glock 19 - Good price, plentiful amount of mods and accessories
Recoil, grip is uncomfortable, strange trigger
HK USP - smooth, good grip, good trigger feel, low recoil, seems proportional
pricey and also i don't know if i can modify as much
HK USPc - smooth, nice trigger, grip is ok
pricey, modification unknown as well, more recoil, magazine looks strange, exterior wise it seems a little chunky and snubby, end of barrel seems too close to trigger guard (maybe the exterior is just the style)

The fit of One's hand to a handgun's grip is very important to good shooting.

Based upon the above quote, I wouldn't choose the Glock 19 if it did fit my hand.. It's not so much about what 'good' or 'bad' about a particular model -- it's about what fits well and performs for your personal needs.

    good luck,

Buy the USP40. You'll never need to modify it. It's that good straight out of the box. It'll shoot everytime you pull the trigger no matter what you feed it. Which is what you want out of such a gun. Some say the USPc is a perfect size... I like it, but went with the full size. My P2000 is my smaller gun.

If you want a gun to modify, then you should get a 1911. Most combat guns don't need, or accept, modifications. The 1911 you can mod until your hearts content.

In terms of size, the HK USP Compact is a fairer comparison to the Glock 19. And, I'd recommend the HK P2000 over the HK USP Compact. Better trigger and better ergonomics are to be had with the P2000. And, between V2 and V3 for the P2000, I suggest the latter.

Buy two glocks, keep one stock, and go hog wild on the other one. Reduce and reshape the grip to your fancy.

One more thing going for the HK USP40 Compact (which applies to the HK P2000 as well, because they use the same magazines) is that the factory 10-round magazines are dirt-cheap right now. I bought a bunch from Cal's Sporting Armory for $5.99 a pop.

You can't go wrong with the usp compact.

                GLOCK19

                Hands down.

I put about 20000 rounds thru mine in the past year and a half.

Very simple design, 30ish parts for the whole gun, and many of which are common across the whole Glock platform.

No matter how much you abuse a Glock, you pick it up anytime, and you can assume that it is all good to go and will perform reliably.

"grip is uncomfortable" <- are you talking about the grip-angle or the grip-texture? I don't like the "checkering" of the gen3 glocks too, but i use "Tru-Grip" on my IPSC and IDPA glock, and I loved it!!

I would go to a range and simply rent a few different handguns to get a feel for what you like. My first handgun was a USP Compact .45 and I would not change a thing in hindsight but depending on the person, I will not simply recommend every first time buyer to go out and get the same thing. I prefer the USP Compact over the P2000, but as evidenced by lunde's post where he recommends the P2000 over the USP Compact, everyone will have different opinions. So the main thing is that you need to be comfortable with what you are buying rather than getting others to express their comfort in different handguns.

i'm your size and have shot all 3 you're looking at. the p2000 felt really good in my hand, but i never shot it. just in holding the usp/uspc/p2000, i prefer the p2000, but again, i've never shot the p2000. personally, i like the sig p229 in terms of fit/feel, not to mention how it shoots.

Where are you located? I'd suggest shooting all three before you make your decision. I have a G19, fits nice in my hand, but I hate how it shoots, not comfortable for me at all. I just ordered a P2000 (picking it up this Sat). If your in LA sometimes....you can try it out before u buy. No matter how it feels in your hand, if you uncomfortable shooting it, you just won't enjoy it. You might wanta try at Sig P228 btw.

Are prices dropping on USP45C mags too, or is it just because there is a regular capacity 40 and the 10rds are bein dumped? I have a cousin who could use some 45C mags.

I paid about $30-$40 each for my factory USP45C mags last year.

Prices on the uspc 45 mags are still pretty high. The 9 and 40 10 rounders are cheap because there are higher capacity mags available, the same can't be said about the 45 compact mags.

Dude, relax on the kool-aid.. You're suppose to mix it with water...

Honestly, all three are very good, accurate and reliable handguns. Any reason why you're looking at the G19 instead of the G23, or why the USP/c in 40 and not 9? Most people compare based on caliber. I've fired all three, and can 10 ring them without practice at 15 yards. My personal vote is the USPc, cause it fits my hand like a glove. There was something "different" with the glock grip, that I personally didnt like.

As mentioned by another poster, I would also look at the sigs as well. Can't go wrong with any of the 3 brands. FYI, I have over 30k rounds in my USPc 9 (maybe in 3 years), most of which were +p+ rounds. Not one jam, not one malfunction (I did have one round that had a dud primer though).
