Your Thoughts on Frog Lube

I'm looking into different products before I pick up my gun next week. I've read several statements from people that say it trumps anything they've ever used in the past.

The thing is I've also read some comments that say that it repels petroleum products which could be problematic.

What about those of you gere that use it? Do you need anything else or do you use it exclusively?

I use it exclusively on my 1911, and it works great! At first I was using petroleum-based CLPs for lubing and i found that the lube would leak out of the rails pretty quick. The Frog Lube stays in there in my safe/holster and doesn't leak out as much when the gun heats up at the range.

As for FL reacting with petroleum products... all that means is that when you switch a gun to FL you can't use petroleum based oils/greases on it. This is not a problem IMO since the FL does the job just fine by itself... unless you're dead set on using a petroleum based grease for lubrication, just go with the Frog Lube paste.

I'm not going to pretend that FL is some miracle product that performs its job (cleaning/lubing/protecting) far better than other CLPs, but for me the #1 reason to use it over the others is the smell. It really smells great which means I can clean and lube my firearms indoors without getting headaches or getting yelled at by everyone else in the house. It's also non-toxic which means I don't have to worry as much about cleaning the work area and washing my hands before eating or playing around with the dog/kids. It also makes clean-up a little easier than Break-Free CLP does... after a field strip the grime really does wipe off easily. With Break-Free I always felt the need to use a solvent to clean some of the parts before re-applying CLP, but with Froglube I just wipe it off and put some more FL on there.

I also started using FL on my Mosin Nagant 91/30 and my old Marlin .22 rifle, and I noticed that a few patches of FL came out with a lot of gunk on them even though I'd previously given the bores a good scrubbing with Hoppe's #9 and Break-Free CLP.

I use the paste on the rails and the barrel-bushing interface on my 1911, and the liquid for everything else. I'm very happy with my purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Frog Lube as a CLP.

Do you use the Froglube brand solvent as well?

Just keep it out of your firing pin channels and it's all good.

The recent cold weather really solidified the FL on my pistols. Kind of like having chapstick in the works.

Its crap as a rust preventer. I just use Kroil to clean and CLP as a lubricant.

I love froglube. Its been pretty good to me. I use to use CLP and M-Pro 7 but switched to froglube exclusively. no problems yet and it does smell great

I've been a convert for 2 years now. It's the only stuff I put on my ARs. Great stuff.
