OK ok I'm so excited I have to share - it took days of searching through FFLs and working out the details (man is this state painful), but I'm buying my holy grail - a S&W Model 66-3 3" - from a guy down in the LA area. Another Calgunner was of key assistance with the FFL business, he gets the big thanks for helping make it happen. (as well as the two people who contacted me as soon as they saw it for sale, there's some love! - one a Calgunner, one a guy I just know from around the way)

I paid the CA extortion fee to avoid the risk of losing the gun to some out of state bidder (someone already bid on it but Buy It Now was still active for +$200), but at "about twenty rounds have been fired out of it" shape I'm getting an almost NIB handgun here with all the original box/parts - and the seller is a real nice guy to boot, we've been emailing for days. He bought it as a duty backup, thought it was too nice to carry so threw it in the safe (and now he's reaping the benefit of doing so ).

I'm crying a little at the price I'm paying but jumping for joy at finding the gun.

Completely - Calgunners have seriously helped me out and (what I think) vice versa, I've helped other people find stuff. This site is fantastic, it's like having our own clubhouse.

OT: can anyone give advice on the best way to send a money order? Like do you wait for the gun to be shipped, or send it at the same time, do you use registered mail of some sort with insurance...? (feel free to PM me on this - we're talking a chunk of change here, so want to do this safely...nothing gets lost getting to the seller, I don't get screwed, etc. - never done this before)

Finding this site has made bankruptcy a real possibility for me!

I've used money orders in a number of ebay transactions. I always use USPS MOs and have never had a problem. Being that the amount is substantial, registered/insured mail might not be a bad idea although I've never had a MO get lost in the mail myself. Delivery Confirmation is a must though.
