    XD9 or MP9

I'd like your opinions on both. If you had to pick one which would you get and why?

I tried both these models at the local range. I was considering another 9mm after I sold my G17 with the rise in ammunition costs. The XD is very comfortable in my hand, but I did enjoy the M&P after I got used to the trigger. I spent a good time with my new 1911 so I kind of spoiled myself. I found the M&P extremely accurate and enjoyed the slim profile. The only reason why I didn't buy it is that the grip is a bit narrow and I felt a tiny gap around the meat of my palm (It probably could've been fix with the palm swells but I didn't think the range would bother swapping them.) I think the M&P would be very female friendly as well since my G17 was a bit thick for them to fire. I may still go out and buy one if I could bother the shop to swap them out for me.

Out of those two choices, the XD9. The M&P has too many failure issues of broken strikers and inadvertent mag releases for my liking.

I was set to buy a XD until I shot a M&P for the first time and I was sold. It just felt great. I like the trigger better and the interchangeable palmswell grips give you nice options for fit. Now I own two M&Ps and one is my carry gun. I shoot it better than any other pistol.

The XD has its own issues like the grip safety locking it up tight.

I enjoy shooting the M&P9 also but that trigger reset kinda sucks. Glock still owns that like no one's business.

I have both and like both, they both hsve fed and ejected fine no problems and I've at least 500 rounds down both.
It is reported that the M&P has lots of problems but I think this is on the early ones.

It really is a matter of which one you like best. I was looking for a 9mm carry gun back in FEB. I tried various manufactures (as I did not have any favorites) and ended up with a XD9. I am not one of these types that is a fanboy of any manufacturer. I just go with a reputable manufacturer that feels good in my hands and that I can shoot well.

I much prefer the M&P. Both feel pretty good in the hand, but for some reason the weight distribution on the XD feels really front heavy.

Both triggers can be made to quite an exceptional level, both are reliable, accurate, and easy to shoot. I was, however, REALLY amazed by how little the M&P recoils.

                Can't go wrong with either.

P.S. Shame you sold your G17. I prefer that over the M&P and XD.

Anyone shooting IDPA or USPSA with the MP9 yet? I'd like to hear your experiences.

The mag drop problem the early M&P's had are gone, and SW offers unparalleled service, and free mag catch assemblies if you need one.

Never even heard of a broken striker in an M&P.

MP-PISTOL forum has all the dirt on the M&P and you'll find they're quite the glock/XD killers they are made out to be.

PD stations all over the country are apparently smitten by the M&P. Their adjustable back straps put them in a rare feature group to allow the best grip possibility. There's more safeties on the M&P than probably any gun, including the new manual thumb safety the .45 models are coming out with.

Their bore axis is lower than the XD giving it slightly better recoil management/follow up which I've noticed between the two...not that 9mm is bad on either.

but the real question..what really matters...is which one is better looking..which one has the sex appeal.. that's right kids, the m&p is the heart throb of the tupperware market!

                      Glock 17/19 or Stey M9A1.

Both because I prefer those AND because I hate this or that polls.

I bought the Springfield XD9 several months ago and i'm glad I did, it fits my hand great and is just an overall pleasure to shoot. About 500 rounds through it and 0 failures.

i got a xd9 service and i too love it... i shot both before i purchased it and for me, the xd9 felt better to shoot. i suggest going to a range that has both and trying them back to back.
both companies have awesome customer service. however, there appear to be more accessories for the xd platform than for the M&P series. both are dwarfed by the glock though.

Being new to the gun world I was looking for a .40 and I wound up with the XD for the simple fact that it fit well in my hand and has a lifetime warranty.
