so it cannot be too heavy to move by myself.
i currently have 10 hand guns, and 5 rifles.

Lots of info on here, just search. You can get a cheap, Chinese safe from many big box stores, but you will sacrifice steel thickness and build quality ($400-$1000). Even many "nicer looking" safes use 12ga steel on the outside (Liberty), so you really need to decide how much "security" you want and your desired budget. Don't be blinded by bells and whistles, look for solid function and value.

I would check out Sturdy Safes and The Gun Safe Company (formerly known as Visalia Safes). Both offer made in USA craftsmanship, US steel, and minimum 7ga steel on the outside body and another steel liner inside if you want fire protection.

Buy bigger than what you need right now. Buy once, cry once. Whatever you get: bolt it down and don't tell anyone. A safe is just one component in a layered security plan.

i went with a Stack On 18gun convertible security cabinet, and i set it up so that i can have rifles on one side, shelves on the other, and a full top shelf (which for some reason isn't one of the possibilities that they list). it's bolted in the corner of my closet, in my computer room (which is also always locked). I know it's not a safe, but it's up stairs so i wanted something i could actually move without killing myself. I figure if someone is gonna by pass my security to break into my house, break into my computer room, and get to my safe...it really doesn't matter what i have at that point. But this way i can keep the honest people honest, and make sure my neices/nephews don't get their hands on my guns.

Sturdy. If weight is an issue for you then it will be for someone trying to cart it off too. Hire someone to move it for you if you can't.

I went with a 14 gun sentry safe from HD 300.00.. about 200 lbs and I was able to get it up my stairs with 2 people.....I put extra lag bolts in the floor for extra security, I also put a cable around all my rifles for even more security...
Its not he best but its not the worst..... I also added an extra shelf for my pistols.. I have 3 pistols and 5 rifles and a bunch or other things I wanted to lock up... klike cameras and video equipment jewlery ,, checks, credit cards, papers, knifes ,,, you nam eit its in there,.

The 10 gun safes from Sentry and Winchester are around 150lbs and can be moved upstairs easily. You can compensate somewhat for the lack of steel by bolting it into a closet or other tight space that would make it difficult to put tools to it. Very simple interiors with a single top shelf.
Tractor Supply has the Winchester for $255 currently.
Dick's has a 10 gun Field & Stream with 30 minute fire rating and adjustable interior but it is 100lbs heavier.

I actually emailed sentry and they sent me extra clips so I could add another shelf.... I just used some plywood and covered it in speaker cover material..
worked out great.. I also added a door orginizer, just velcro to the door, and it holds papers,knives, gun locks..

Anything light enough to move upstairs by yourself is probably going to be junk IMO. Without knowing your budget I'd recommend Liberty safes. They make very nice looking safes with lots of cool features like power ports, lights, glossy paint. These things might be important to you if this safe is going to be seen in the living area of your house. I'd also recommend Liberty because they deliver AND install (bolt down) safes INSIDE a home for a very fair price. Others usually drop of in your driveway and the rest is up to you.
I have a Sturdy safe myself and like it a lot but the middle to higher end Liberties are a lot nicer looking. This might matter to you if it will be seen inside your house and not hidden away in a back room like mine is. Good luck.

First off, and trust me on this, whatever safe size you think you need, double it.
I have and enjoy greatly a Cannon S21 Scout. The internal power availability is really handy. Runs my dehumidifier bar and my ghetto lights (looking for a small disco ball if anyone has one, drop me a pm). Really love it.
Rent an appliance dolly at Home Depot or somewhere and get a couple friends you trust with your very life to help you. If you do not have any friends you trust with your life, get some acquaintances to help you.
Of course, you'll have to kill them afterwards.
I truly believe most safe thefts/burglaries are committed by people the owner knows or through info leaked by loudmouthed "friends".
The fewer who know what you got and where you got it and how you store it, the better. Even my wife doesn't have the code to mine. She writes down everything (besides if she ever saw how much was in there I'd be a dead man walking). I die, she's going to have to call a locksmith.

+1 on this.. my 8 rifle safe holds 4 comfortably. It will hold 8 but they'd be stacked like a cord of wood.
