TX resident, family home in CA

Hello. I moved to Texas from Norcal earlier this summer. I attend college here and I have a TX license and I'll be a TX resident soon. However, my parents live in California.

I recently purchased a Glock 17 Gen4 - not on CADOJ safe list. Can I bring this to California and leave it in my room (permanently) if I bring only the 10rd mag? I want to be able to keep it there so my dad and brother can use it for protection.

If you leave it there and your family has access to it it would be an illegal transfer.

If you locked it up in a safe and only you had access to the safe then it would be ok.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

As long as your father has a CA HSC you can transfer the gun to him by filing a form and paying (I think) a $10 fee. He could transfer the gun back to you the same way at any time.

          $19.

          (I wish it was 10..hahaha)

However. Federal Law requires he transfer thru an FFL (if the son lives out of State) (interstate requires this)

If they both lived here in California then the FORM could be used. Dad does have to get an HSC card regardless.

Since the son says he is a legal resident of Texas, the best thing to do is GIFT dad the Gen4 G17; have an FFL in texas send it to Dad's FFL here in Calilfornia. Gifts from vertical relatives are EXEMPT from the Roster.

Include a copy of your Texas DL (son) and a note that says : "I am Joe Blow and want my father Dave Blow to have my GLOCK 17, serial number xxxxxxxx as a GIFT from me."

The FFL here will enter the DROS as a GIFT and is exempt. Dad waits 10 days and takes it home.

          Simple and legal.

PS. sometimes an FFL here in California will accept a handgun direct from Out Of State (usually they want that ID and Letter) ...ask around. Otherwise just have an FFL in Texas ship it to Dads FFL. FFLs can legally use the USPS and shipping is about 30 Bucks. Do it yourself at Fed Ex or USP overnight required it's gonna cost you $80 and up. Shop around.

Asked and answered - nicely done, Bob.
