    For developing skills, I will say that if you can shoot a revolver DA accurately you can shoot anything.
    .357 Magnum probably gives the best payback of any other caliber to reload. It's because you tend to shoot a lot of it and store-bought is so expensive. The upside is the brass is a lot easier to recover than .45, especially at an indoor range. If you don't reload yet, right after buying a .357 is a great time to start.

      The 686 was my 1st gun and will always be my favorite. I'm sure you can't go wrong either way, but I vote for the smith
