I just got my Sig 1911 this week and it is a awesome. Once I get 500rds through it, including 100 Gold Dots, and am satisfied with reliability, it's going to be my primary HD gun. However, my revolvers are my favorites.
Question...do you already own a 1911 or a .357 revolver? If you own one, get the other first. If I could only own 2 handguns they would be my Model 27 and a 1911.
If it's going to be primarily a range toy, I vote for the 686. Don't see too many of us wheelgunners at the range anymore. -
I love both the Sig TTT, and the S&W 686+. Really you can't go wrong with either choices and barrel length.
I love my 1911s, and I have many more on the list to buy but looking into my first Revolver. Saving up for a S&W Model 29 .44Magnum 6.5inch Blued.
Just patiently waiting for S&W to play catch-up at the moment "they are busy and back-up'd with at least 300,000 M&P pistols" -what my FFL told me, when I tried to ask about placing an order.Last edited by INFAMOUS762X39; 12-21-2012, 8:41 PM.Comment

I love my TTT and I've fired a friend's 686 a bunch. Fine gun. Tough choice but I'd still go with the TTT because it's just so darn pretty."Hence it happened that all the armed prophets conquered, all the unarmed perished." - Niccolo MachiavelliComment

I don't own either of these yet; both if these will be filling a caliber that I'm missing (looking to collection something in almost every caliber). Very true about not seeing many wheelguns at the range.I just got my Sig 1911 this week and it is a awesome. Which why it's soo hard to make the decision; they are both great! I wish I had to cash to get them both at once, but I should save some money...:laughI love both the Sig TTT, and the S&W 686+. Really you can't go wrong with either choices and barrel length.

What were ammo prices like, before all this craziness took place? What barrel length are you running on your 686?
I guess I'm just going to go touch them both and hear which speaks to me..

It is a Universall Truth that everyone should own a 1911 in .45ACP (I shouldn't need to specify caliber but this IS Calguns
) and a .357 Magnum wheelgun.
You need both!

I will have both, just need to figure which first...aha This is really hard, but I guess it's a good problem to have.

Shooting Big Dog magnums out of a revolver is a lot of fun but unless you're reloading ammo can be hard to find and is always pricy. You can always practice with .38 Special though.
.45ACP ain't cheap either but usually easier to find and less than .357 Magnum.
For developing skills, I will say that if you can shoot a revolver DA accurately you can shoot anything.

Go for the 686. I have a bunch of .45 ACP pistols, and one day I went into Trader's to buy another (I forget which) when I saw a 686 on the shelf and on sheer impulse, I plunked down the money and bought it. I spent the next ten days kicking myself, but I figured well, I can always sell it and get what I really want.
Trader's owner was kind enough to throw in a box of MiWall .357 158 gr. JHP, so I took it to Davis Street and tried it out.
All it took was one cylinder down range, and I was hooked. The 686 is an outstanding handgun: accurate, reliable, accurate, easy to clean - and did I mention accurate?
You won't regret your purchase.

That's a definitely +1 over the 1911 (ammo versatility).Shooting Big Dog magnums out of a revolver is a lot of fun but unless you're reloading ammo can be hard to find and is always pricy. You can always practice with .38 Special though.

I must say that's a damn nice group, at least to me.Go for the 686. If I go with the 686, I'd be looking to bevel (if forget the proper term) the cylinder ports eventually.Comment
