I have four .45's: 2 1911's, a Gen4 G21, and an M&P 45. The M&P is my favorite of the four due to its improved ergonomics. It does need the Apex DCAEK to live up to its potential, but it's totally worth the extra $. These are just my opinions, of course.

I suggest you just don't hold/handle the firearms, shoot them! The bottom line is this: which of these guns do I shoot best (i.e. hit the target accurately and with constancy) without too much drama?

      My personal choice: Glock 21SF

        Well...

If you can actually hit what you aim at...?

        ...Glock G36.

(but only if you are a pistol marksman )

I have been carrying my factory, no frills, plain jane G21 for 6 years on duty and have fired thousands of rounds through it. I have yet to have a failure when I'm shooting it. However, when my wife or a non-shooter fires it, they get a FTE nearly every damn time. If you go G21, you need to handle it, or it will handle you.

If you know what you're doing its an accurate and solid gun.

You've given yourself the best advice! Glock, S&W, FN, Sig are all quality items, it all comes down to which one fits you best.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

The way I always decide on things is first try them out and learn all about them.
Then have somebody make the choice for you. When they choose something, depending on your feeling at that moment, you know which you want a bit more.

The key is to actually know about them though.

Glocks don't fit my hand well and I dislike the odd grip angle, the XD's barrel axis is way too high, and the M&P fits my hand perfectly so my choice was easy - M&P45, M&P9c and M&P40c.

QFT. I'd go m&p. But if you want to consider something else in that price range, try the xd.

So I originally was looking at getting the FNP-45...Until I realized no go and SSE was not that popular or regularly done. I decided to go 9mm and tried the M&P 45 and check the Glock because everyone says it is awesome. The Glock lost bad in regards to comfort and accuracy for me. The M&P was just perfect and reliable. I ended up Drosing an M&P 45. I shoot a lot so the gun has to fit my hand perfectly. Even with the ok trigger it is a great platform...APEX Tactical is a customer of mine so I got the works done on it for an awesome price...Now my M&P can go out to 50yards pretty consistently and shoots EXTREMELY accurately.

However, try before you buy...Some people get Glocks because that is what everyone says...Some get them because that is all they are exposed to...I got what I wanted.

                    I won...M&P brother.

So I went to my lgs and ended up DROSing a....... XD 45! The Glock felt like a Glock and they didn't have the 21sf. The M&P felt great but they were out of stock and none of their suppliers had any in stock. I didn't mind waiting so I filled out the paperwork and as I was waiting I spotted the XD and asked to see it. Well I liked it just a bit more than the M&P and it was their last one so I said XD IT IS!

I own a Glock 21 I bought in 1998 when I was working armored car that I have fired several thousand rounds from with the original 13 round mags and have never once had a misfeed or failure to eject. I have owned several 1911 SA pistols and have always had to tweak them a little to work 100%. I fired a XD .45 and it just did not feel right although it functioned perfectly. I was going to buy a SIG .45 but the mags were unreliable I felt. I favor the G21 so far over all other .45s Ive fired...except for my WW2 Issue 1911 I carried in the Army many moons ago..
