    Glock 21 or M&P 45?

I'm going to be adding a .45 acp to my collection and I don't really want a 1911 yet so I've been looking at the Glock 21 and the M&P 45. I already have a Glock 19 so I wanted to try something different. I like the look of the S&W M&P and I have yet to handle it but I was wondering which one would be a better choice. My LSG has the M&P about $30 cheaper than the Glock which is another reason I was leaning twords it. Also is there another .45 acp/auto I should look at that's around the price range? A Sig maybe?

I don't think you'll find a Sig in that price range, I would definitely try to handle both. I personally don't like the M&P's trigger, I feel the length of pull is much too long. Also, the advice I've always received was stick with what you know, especially for self defense. But everyone's different. Like I said, try them both out see what you like.

I personally don't own a m&p but I have shot it before and it was ok. I own quite a few glocks and I love them. If you have large hands then the glock 21 is good for you cause the grip is rather thick. If you have small or medium hands check out the glock 21sf or a glock 30. When it comes down to it, it's your own personal preference. It's what you like, not what others like.

The Glock 21 SF is definitely a good option. If you want a Sig then maybe you can ask some gun shops if the have a certified pre-owned or used one that could be closer to what you want then a new Sig would. Used to work in the industry and new heard any issues with CPO Sig's. One thing to ask is if you can get or if they have one with a rail if you want that and the age of the gun/night sights. Good luck

I really like the M&P but not .45 version. Another option is the XD45 to look at. Now that is a .45 done right, but just my opinion.

Ask around on the Sig board and you'll find a few places to get CPO's

I was trying to make this decision for the past year or so. I looked at the M&P 45, F&N 45, and Glock 21. I decided on the Glock 21 Gen 4 since it was the best overall gun and since I have other Glocks I'm already familiar and trained on the platform. Sold my USP45

I've owned a Glock 21 and loved it but had to sell it... I will probably be picking up a 21sf next year sometime... I own a M&P 40 and to me nothing is more sexy and feels as good as my M&P... I would go with the Smith & Wesson... But both are solid shooters... will come down to how it feels in your hand... I love the 21, my hands are huge so I had no issues... but I will go with a 21SF because I love slim grips and use the smallest backstrap on my M&P... good luck with your purchase. post some pics when you get her

Wow, now I'm more undecided than ever lol. I guess I'll just have to go in and hold all of them. My head and my hands are between sizes which sucks when trying to get a good fit. My hands are between medium and large which makes glove sizing difficult and my head is between a large and x-large. I have a hard time with hats and motorcycle helmets

Try shooting both. I know Reed's and TargetMasters rents both.
I own an M&P45 and I like it over the G21SF (gen 3). A friend of mine lent me his G21SF (gen 3) a few times.
I ended up with the M&P45 and upgraded to the APEX trigger. Oh yeah, I'm more of a 1911 guy and the M&P grips are "similar". Finally, I wanted the manual safety of the M&P. FYI, I also own a G30SF.

                  Get a Gen4 Glock 21SF. Nothing better.

In .45 acp, I've owned nothing but 1911s. But I've also liked the Glock 21 for many years now though I never bought one.

Without further ado, I suggest the Glock 21.

I rented both and ended up getting a Glock 21SF. While the M&P 45 felt better in my hand, I shot the 21SF much better.

Being a recovering Glockaholic with too many of them in my safe, I have to say they are good guns. But....I also have an M&P 45 5" and it's good (an apex trigger could make it great) and an XD45 5". Favorite (drum roll please).....the XD45 is GtG out of the box. More accessories come with the XDs generally. I find the fit, for my hand is perfect.
Although you can change the backstraps with an M&P (and I did-medium size) it still doesn't do it for me and don't sell the Glock 21 SF short...try it, you might find it a contender.
As advised above....don't listen to us (we are not you), go rent and shoot the models mentioned here and pick what you like the best. Prices are going to be close to each other, so don't settle. Get want you want, it'll pay off in the long run even if you have to pay more up front you won't be selling off a bad buy and spending again on what you should have probably bought the first time.
Good luck and let us know what you buy!!!

That's easy - the one that feels best in your hand. The Glock is a good reliable handgun as long as you don't limp wrist it but the ergonomics are dated. The M&P is a more modern design with better ergonomics. Glocks don't fit my hand well and I dislike the odd grip angle, the XD's barrel axis is way too high, and the M&P fits my hand perfectly so my choice was easy - M&P45, M&P9c and M&P40c.

Sig, S&W, Glock, HK and Springfield all make fine duty .45ACP's. They are all in the same envelop for quality and performance. As to which ones is best, shoot them all and decide. At the very least, hold them in our hands at your LGS.

Honestly, a $30 difference on a $500+ item should not be a factor. This pistol can be with you for decades!!! Skip the daily mocha at Starbucks for 8 days this month and you have the difference.
