Ruger LC9

diesel, I have one. It's been 100% reliable. The trigger is smooth, but it is long. I don't really care for all the other safety "features" but I pretty much ignore them. It's accurate for a small pistol, and conceals really well. I'm well over 2000 rounds and to be honest,I've quite counting. I bought a Kahr CM9 and I liked it, but my wife couldn't cycle the slide. I don't want a weapon around that she can't function, so I sold the Kahr (only gun I've ever sold!).
I carry my LC9 in a IWB holster, so the trigger is covered. With the long pull it has I leave the safety off. I don't know that I would say I like it, but it's been 100% for me to this point. When I bought it, I bought it for a purpose, and it does that well I think. -

some good reviews...
If you go much smaller, you probably need to drop to a sub caliber
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Love mine, I echo CJJohn in the operation. Works flawless but the DAO pull is pretty long and took me a bit to get used to it after the crisp pull of my CZ75 SAO. But as far as a light carry piece, it's excellent. Doing double tap drills I am able to get pretty tight groups at 25 feet. Was my second choice as the CZ2075 RAMI was just never in stock. One note... after 500 rounds through I like the normal magazine floor plate over the extended plate as it is much easier to control.US Navy Retired 1987-2007Comment

Have had nothing but trouble with mine. If I thought it would go bang every time I would love it.Originally posted by rickey65No money is fine but perhaps he may learn how fast he will forget not to engage in fraudulent activities with good people.Comment

I'm waiting for mine to get out of Jail. What I have gathered after doing some intensive research was it can go from a good CCW/BUG weapon to a great one after completing a few modifications. The main issues I've seen were the trigger just & the magazine disconnect. You can remove the magazine disconnect from the weapon fairly easily from the YT videos I've seen on it.
Galloway Precision manufactures a trigger upgrade kit with their own trigger bar & hammer (or your supplied parts) and will shorten the stroke by half the stock pull length and break at the half way point of the stock travel. They manufacture short power springs to help eliminate the stacking at the end of the trigger pull by reducing the spring power of the firing pin blocker spring and the lifter arm spring. They offer a 20lb recoil spring to tame the muzzle flip when using hotter ammo. I think if LC9's came from the factory w/ these parts you would be seeing very few Previously owned LC9's on the market.
emsalex- If you are experiencing light primer strikes or FTF you should clean the firing pin channel if you haven't already. A few Ammo brands have been know to have flakes off of their primers get stuck in the firing pin channel which has resulted in the vast majority of LC9 issues posted up over the net.Last edited by P.W.; 12-19-2012, 5:19 PM.Comment

I have about 500 rounds through mine and can say that overall I do like the gun. Never had a FTF and it will shoot anything I put in it. I really don't care for the trigger pull and reset as others have said, and am looking into Galloway's parts to change that. But I think it was a good buy for it's purpose. I have the LMT model with the laser site built in and like that feature. It has very good accuracy, I was surprised at that.Owning guns makes heroin addiction look like a vague wish for something salty.

I did. They sent it back with an unpinned sight and fails to fire on the last two rounds. I have not been able to make it to 100 rounds. Its great Ruger will fix it, but needing a new slide and two trips back to Ruger in less than 100 rounds makes me not want to carry it and its not a very fun range toy. I love Ruger, I just seem to get all of the QC misshaps.Originally posted by rickey65No money is fine but perhaps he may learn how fast he will forget not to engage in fraudulent activities with good people.Comment

I love my LC9... I have about 2k rounds thru mine.. I have the Galloway trigger job on mine and love it...Galloway is having trouble right now getting the parts for the trigger job right now, but they should have the issue fixed soon....THe one thing I have found out is it like to be wet.. Im trying a new lube ( froglube ) and I am betting it will be awesome.. I havent had a chance to get to the range yet with the new lube..... I say go for it....Comment

I've owned two...bought one, hated the trigger, excessively long pull and very noticeable stacking toward the end of the excessively long pull...sold it...3 months later forgot how bad the trigger was and bought another one, same issue with the trigger and the front sight came loose on this one. Ruger fixed the sight issue then I sold it.
There are many other single stack 9s on the market that clearly out-do the LC9. If you want the absolute best the top 3 that I have shot are the Kimber Solo, Walther PPS and S&W Shield. If those are too much/you can't get it/whatever the next on my list would be either a Kahr CM9 or CW9, then the Beretta Nano. Heck, even the Taurus 709slim was more accurate and had a better trigger than the LC9.
I have owned every single gun I talked about/listed with the exception of the Shield, but a guy at the range was kind enough to let me try it in exchange for letting him shoot my PPS. I only sold my Kimber Solo because I felt it was too nice of a gun for me to destroy as a carry gun, so I sold it to friend that is a huge Kimber fan.
To put it simply, the Ruger is a polished/refined copy of a KelTec...and you know what they say about a polished turd...it's still a turd...
Do yourself a favor and rent a few of these guns before making a decision...I doubt anyone shooting a Nano, 709, or Kahr next to the LC9 would ever decide on the LC9. As for putting in the Galloway parts to make it a better gun, I have tried one with the galloway trigger setup, and while it was better, after the cost of the parts to get it there you would be better served with spending a little more upfront and a little less overall on a Kahr.Last edited by drifter2be; 12-19-2012, 11:16 PM.Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L Mencken

looks like the ruger is a pretty good lil gun thanks for all the input. How about 380s ive looked at the kahr p380 alot of people have said they have some problems with them what other 380s would be a good choice to look at for reliabilityComment

Yet in California it's almost impossible to get any of those other guns you suggest. I got the LC9 over a number of Kahrs. I'd pick up a Solo, at least twice the price, if I could find one. I'd get a nano too. Again, not available.I've owned two...bought one, hated the trigger, excessively long pull and very noticeable stacking toward the end of the excessively long pull...sold it...3 months later forgot how bad the trigger was and bought another one, same issue with the trigger and the front sight came loose on this one. I've got Keltecs as well, the ruger is far better built, and almost as inexpensive.
Can't beat it in CA for under $500. That's an important point....Comment

I guess if you have to stick to a budget...my life is worth more than any amount of cash so I had no problem dropping extra cash for a gun I was trusting my life to. As I said in my post I went through the LC9 twice, neither time was a great experience. If I was limited to what can be had on the CA roster and unwilling to SSE a better gun I would still go with the CW9 Kahr over the LC9Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L Mencken
