i do figure the cost of ammo for my gun, hence the reason why i went 9mm. ammo is readily available, easy to reload and cost to reload is cheaper, and if you are concerned about "knock down" power, go with +p+ and hollows and i think that will do the trick as a defense ammo.

I'm part of the camp where I have one gun, but lots and lots of ammo to shoot with.

So yes, I do figure in ammo as a part of a purchase decision. If I want to shoot 12,000 rounds of 9mm next year, then I know that I have to set aside $2,500 for the ammo alone, + range membership this year.

Everytime I look at a firearm I am interested in, I ask myself, How much is each round/trigger pull is going to cost me? etc. Since I do not reload, I want to learn/buy the propper setup eventually.

Just picked up more ammo for my ruger 22/45. Federal .22 Brick of 525rds at 17.98$ = .03+ Cents a shot. More trigger time, more practice, more fun.

I didn't before but now I do. I've basically narrowed it down to 9mm for my primary side arm and CCW (G17/G26) and sold everything else. This along with a .22lr to train with as far a pistols go.

Not really I enjoy shooting my 9mm and 22lr in time I will be moveing up in caliber not sure if to get a 45acp or a 357mag those will be my once in a while guns if I opted to go higher

Do you figure in ammo as part of the price of a new gun?
Or do you just go for a 'good priced' gun on impulse and then buy ammo alittle at a time to stock up?

More specifically,
I have been looking for a possible cheaper .380 or 9mm MAK to add to my collection.
The price of the actual guns are $200-$400 range, but,
Since I dont have any ammo for either of those two choices, i can roughly figure in another $100 or more, just to get started.
In the past, I usually try to shop for calibers that I already have so I dont have to 're-purchase' a whole new caliber. That seems to make the gun price cheaper in the long run.

FYI, the pistol(s) in question i am looking into buying is either the CZ82 or 83.
but the 'having to stockpile a whole new ammo' is keeping me from branching out away from 9mm.
Are these smaller pistols even worth having? or should I just get a smaller 'micro' or 'pocket' (whatever the buzz word is for them) 9mm of approx the same size to keep my ammo needs simplified?

The big question is how much you want the guns that you're looking at. If you want the gun, you'll pay for the ammo.

Also consider how much you'll be shooting the gun. If you're going to use it as an HD or a carry gun, then you're going to be looking at shooting a lot of ammo through it. If it's just a play gun, then the price of ammo is going to be less of an issue.

Personally, since I have no interest in getting anything in .380 or 9mm Mak, I'd be looking at a 9mm Luger sub-compact to fulfill that niche, but that's just me.

I always try to stay with calibers that I already have just for that reason. For whatever reason, I always group .380's with .410's. For me, the ammo for both is too much more than 9mm and 20g to justify. I still own a .380 as well as a .410 and probably have a box and a half of ammo for each, but have not shot either of them in years.

I have (5) 9mms and (1) 1911. I was planning to sell my SR1911 and keep it simple with one caliber, but decided to keep it.

I shot 12K + of 9mm last year and cost of ammo is a big factor to me.
