    Sig SP2022 won't reassemble--- HELP!

    Hey fellow calgunners,

My beloved first handgun that i got a couple months ago will no longer reassemble. The slide gets stuck and won't rack back; it's like it is hitting something that's keeping it from racking. The slide stops moving backwards once the rearmost part of the slide is right about at the hammer. I thought it was the barrel not dropping down enough at first to allow the slide to move backwards, but I tried installing with no barrel and same issue. Also yes, it is on the rails correctly and the barrel, recoil spring, and guide rod are all installed correctly.

Last time I shot it (also the first time) it went together smoothly until i decided to break it down a second time for fun, and then it was a bear to get the slide to rack back fully (I did get it assembled eventually though). Went shooting yesterday and now I can't get the slide back at all after i stripped it for cleaning yesterday. Spent a good 2 hours playing around with it and I can't for the life of me figure out what the deal it.

If anyone has heard of this problem before or knows anything about the sp2022 your help would be greatly appreciated, especially since this is my HD gun and I don't like having it non-operable!

    Thanks

Not sure if its the problem you are having but, you have to put the slide back on almost all the way, install the takedown lever so it hoes through the hole in the bottom of the barrel, then pull the slide far enough back to fully seat the takedown lever.

Yeah i've tried that but once i insert the takedown pin the slide wont move forwards or backwards. It's just kind of stuck there

I used to run into something similar with mine:

Try putting a magazine in and see if the slide makes a sound and pops into place.

When reassembling, put the slide back on the normal position, not pulled back, and insert the take down pin as far as it will go, then pull the slide back to the lined up position and fully insert the take down pin.

            Hope this helps!

That Sigforum link is pretty good...whack it with a mallet

Actually inserting and removing the slide stop pin a number of times into the frame, making sure to get the spring into the groove, should loosen it up

In the future, make sure the slide is not pulled back (or too far forward) when reinserting the takedown pin. You see the loop on the bottom of your barrel? The takedown pin should seat inside that. Then you can rack the slide all the way back and push it the rest of the way through. Took me a few times to realize that, but now takedown and assembly are pretty straight forward. I owned a 2022 for about 6 months.

I had the same problem. You need to align the barrel better with the take down piece.

Wow good thing I spent a lil more and opted to get a p226 combat instead of the 2022 for my first sig and not hassle with the problem

It's not a big deal, just a first time alignment issue.

                          ^^^ This

There is a very good youtube video that covers takedown and reassembly. This is not something that should deter anyone from considering a sigpro.

But yes, Sig's P series is by far one of the easiest to disassemble and reassembler thanks to that lever.

This same thing actually happened to me with my S&W 59. When you rack it all the
Way back without the takedown pin through the frame it can unseat the recoil spring, or it's the barrel but I had to insert magazine which moved the mag release and let me release slide and try again. Attach slide, pop in pin, move slide rearward till notch aligns with hole and snap in. No problem.
