Glock 21: Questions from a new user

I'm used to shooting 9mm both at work (Beretta M9) and privately, just recently I purchased a new Glock 21. My questions are:

How do I eliminate the trigger creep in my gun without messing it up?

How can I upgrade my gun to run faster (aka faster follow up shots, etc)? I understand you can drive your gun fast when its chambered in 9mm, and obviously 45 is a slower, more sluggish round.

I recently was given a Vickers extended mag release. I shoot dynamic (Magpul gun kata) and was wondering if my non shooting hand would depress the extended button when shooting. Should I install it?

Smart Mods for my gun? Or just keep her slick?

    Thanks for any positive input.

You can't eliminate the creep...the travel between engaging the trigger pull and letoff...in a Glock as it is part of the design.

The best thing you can do to learn to run the gun faster is getting some professional instruction to learn correct recoil management and to see the sights faster.

Whether the extended mag release will help or hinder is dependant on your hand size and your grip. I've never had a problem with one on a Glock, a Beretta or a 1911.

Which part of your support hand comes into contact with the mag release during your normal grip...a picture would be very helpful

^^ what he said. I would add a ghost trigger connector, it wont eliminate creep, but it will make the trigger crisper and feel better. They only cost about $15 and are easy to install.

want: milsurp 1911 and Mosin M-44 Carbine

First the fundamentals, stance, grip, sight picture and trigger control.

Here is Sevigny on the grip

First thanks for your service. The best and eaisest way to obtain a smoother trigger is by installing a new style (coated) Lone Wolf Dist. 3.5 connector http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1031 . I've installed one in a 21Sf and it smoothed out the trigger better than an older style non coated 3.5 connector and a .25 cent trigger job combined.
As for faster follow up shot it's all about consistent trigger pull (not past your finger nail), stance, weight on the balls of your heel, slight bend of your knees, bringing your shoulders inward, squaring your target, and tightening your core before each shoot and follow up shots,.
The Vicker's mag release is supposedly the best available for the 21, but I've found the stock release on the SF is perfect IMHO.

You can't eliminate the creep, but you can definitely smoothen it up and take that grit out. Do a google search for Glock 25 cent trigger job. It takes about 20-30 minutes if you're a perfectionist and I find that it greatly improves the take up.

I used the gloxwork trigger set and it is night and day difference.
I can now squeeze a round off and the next shot is so easy it rests right there and just squeeze again bamm second third ect shots no problem
LOVE the trigger and I have 2000 rounds no problems

Congrats on the 21. I used to have the same issues with Glocks (coming from a 1911). With practice and dry firing i was able to handle the trigger a lot better. Going from a larger, heavier 9mm to a smaller lighter 45 will inherently be a little tougher to handle. I would put 500 rounds through and practice before any major upgrades. Who knows, maybe you will end up liking the stock configuration.

Just shoot the hell out of it. My G21SF needs more trigger time.

If you are really serious about modifying the triggers pre and post travel you might want to look in to the Glockworx fulcrum trigger, which has set screws to limit the travel.

On my stock Glock 23 & 27, the actual creep (not slack) is so small it's hard to even detect there's some creep. If you're talking about slack, you should be shooting follow-ups from the reset point not the release point.

Extended mag release is a matter of preference. It's purpose is to make it easier to release the mag. That also means it will be easier to 'accidentally' release the mag. Accidentally dropping your mag on the range is just humorous .. accidentally dropping your mag during an actual defensive action is not funny. So it really just depends on your purpose.
