    S&W 6906

I remember this pistol back in the 90's. It's a 12 round compact version of the 5906. I've always wanted a 3rd gen S&W but never saw any advantages over a Glock. Well since they discontinued them, I've been wanting one even more. My buddy has one and wants to get rid of it so I now have an opportunity to own one. Now I have a S&W M&P9C that's just collecting dust since I carry my G19 all the time. The M&P9C holds the same amount of rounds as the S&W 6906, but the M&P is more compact and lighter. So, my problem is do I keep the more modern M&P or sell it and go old school with the 6906.

Get the 6906 if it is something you like, and have been wanting. I like the third gen SW's too. If you already have a good polymer pistol you trust and just want a nice feeling gun with an alloy frame, why not?

Possibly the M&P9c is worth more than the 5906 though.

        It is OK

It is the weapon I was issued as a state parole agent a few years ago. Now the department has gone to Smith & Wesson M&P 9 or 40. I carry a 40. I really didn't like the safety up on the slide on the 6906, or the fact that it operates opposite from other safeties. Up is shoot instead of safe, and down is safe/decock instead of fire.

But if you want one, I say get it and keep your M&Pc also. You never know when that might be handy to have.

            You need both.

I have the 669 (2nd gen) and the M&P 9c, as well as the M&P 9 and Glock 19. Can't have too many.

            Dust won't hurt them.

And the safeties on the 669/6906 or 59/5906 work like a lot of combat guns, like the Beretta 92f. Quite simple, up and pointing along the barrel is ready to rock and roll.

Those gen 3 S&W's are gorgeous especially the all stainless ones. Just got a nickel plated gen 1 from my mom.

Don't know what you mean. That's the only type of safety I've seen on handguns. Up is fire, down is decock/safe.

Maybe these were guns From Arabia, Iran, or Israel?

You can get an M&Pc any day of the week, get the 6906.

I love my 6906 and my M&P9 fullsize. I will say for CC and EDC an M&Pc would be better than a 6906 but a 6906 is a neat gun and definitely worth having.

I vote 6906. Loved my stainless 5906 and wish I still had it.

                      Agreed.

OP, if you're buying this for CCW, you'll likely be dissapointed. Due to the weight of the gun, I'd be hard pressed to carry this on my body every day.

My 6904 has an amazing trigger. Randy Lee set up the trigger on my 1911 and I believe it equals that trigger.

I've shot mine at a USPSA match and finished in the middle of the field amongst the hot rod guys.

Put a 59 series mag in it and it instantly has a full length grip. I found 10rd mags (5 of them) in a gun shop in the middle of Nebraska. Bought those brand new mags for $40 and the shop owner was glad to see them go.

                          Buy the Smith.

                          .

My G19 is my primary but I do plan on carrying it as well. My cousin has one and carries it all the time. Appendix even.

Mine was my primary off duty and back up gun from 1988 until about three years ago when I started carrying my P2000. It is a great gun and I still carry it from time to time. I shot expert (275/300) with it first time I shot it
